The Software Installer indicates that I have multiple older versions of various packages "Availalable". I'd like to get the older versions off my system. Here's the problem - Software Installer identifies old available packages as follows:
"IBM ThinkPad Package Name ver. 1.31b"
However, when I look in C:\Drivers and C:\IBMTOOLS everything is labelled using cryptic names like "77KU06WW".
Question: How can I identify the old packages for removal? Am I missing something that's simple ? Does there exist somewhere a table that translates driver folder names into Package Names ?
Thanks !

Double-click on the .XML file in each folder. When it opens, you will see which program or driver is located in that folder, and which version it is.
Occasionally you will see (2) .XML files in one folder. This is because originally the files were all named IBMTPI.XML, but now they are named SWI.XML. When you update the driver or program, and the file is named the same, it is overwritten. If the file has a different name, then it's possible that it will remain. If you see both files, the SWI.XML is the newer one, and the one you should go by.

It's not an elegant solution, and it's rather tedious ... but it works!! I stll have a few old packages left, so I'm going back in to take a second look for the rest of them.
I wonder if there might be another method - deleting ALL the contents of C:\Drivers and C:\IBMTOOLS (after backing them up). Wouldn't the Software Installer automatically repopulate these folders but ONLY with the newest packages. Any opinions re: that approach ?
Maybe 1 day, the folks at Lenovo can add functionality to the Software Installer to optionally and automatically remove older packages ....

Well, I routinely delete everything except the two text files in the top level of the \DRIVERS directory (don't have an \IBMTOOLS directory on my T43 with a corporate SOE) after I have successfully installed any updates. Since I have a broadband connection to the Internet, its not a big deal to download a file if I ever need it again, but I can only think of a couple of occassions since SI came along where that has ever been necessary.iminj wrote:I wonder if there might be another method - deleting ALL the contents of C:\Drivers and C:\IBMTOOLS (after backing them up).
