Win XP with SP2 clean installation

#1 Post by Stingray72 » Sun Aug 08, 2004 3:19 pm

I'm planning on slipstreaming SP2 with the i386 folder on my c:\ drive of my thinkpad and then perform a clean installation after creating a bootable cd. I got 1 question though.. do i need to install the intel chipset driver or is it included in SP2??

Thanks..

I happen to have a spare 7200-rpm drive for my T41. So I am going to rebuild as well. I have good recovery CD's for my ThinkPad.

I installed the drive, I imaged the drive with the CD's, and then I updated all the available IBM drivers and applications. Some of those updates are required for SP2. Tomorrow, or soon, I will download SP2 and install it. I have already tested this procedure with RC2.

What do you gain by slipstreaming SP2, installing without the recovery system, and then trying to fix it up afterward?

well i dont happen to have the recovery cds and wiped out the recovery partition. i dont think i need them since i have a backup of my i386 folder on a bootable cd. I prefer doing a clean installation anyway then install the latest drivers and only the ibm apps that i need. Slipstreaming sp2 will save alot of time on installation if i decide to reinstall xp again in the future but not sure if the intel chipset drivers needs to be installed.... i guess the only way of finding out is tryin ...ohh well

i would say use the chipset drivers that IBM provides over anything that MS may or may not include with XP SP2.
