CSS 7.0 and Firefox finally working
CSS 7.0 and Firefox finally working
I recently installed CSS 7.0 hoping that it would accept fingerprints / passwords in Firefox (latest version), but nothing. Yesterday I discovered a plug-in for Firefox C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution\tvtpwm_moz_xpi.xpi that took care of everything. So now finally it's working as it should (asking to save PW, logging in with FP). However, the Ctrl + F2 option doesn't work. Just thought I would share this info with all the desperate Firefox users.
Found it:

1. Open Firefox.
2. Click File, click Open File, then select the tvtpwm_moz_xpi.xpi file from the location where the Client Security Solution application is installed. For example "C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution". The Software Installation window is displayed.
3. Click Install Now.
4. The plugin is displayed in the Extensions window while installing. A message prompting you to restart Firefox to complete the installation is displayed.
5. To verify that the .xpi file installed correctly, restart Firefox.
6. Click Tools, then click Extensions. ThinkVantage Password Manager 2.0 should be displayed in the extension list.

The only question now is whether I want to spend even more time messing around installing CSS7? So far I must have spent about 5 days continuous of my time trying to install, uninstall (which I never managed)....

I would love to have this extension but as it seems i don't even have this file on my x60. It's not in the "designated" folder, because the folder Client Sec.S. does not even exist under "program files/lenovo" at my laptop; i tried searching the whole HD but there's no such file.
What should i do? I would like to have CSS store my passwords and recall them by using FP.

Not stupid at all - it seems i'm running css 6, although i ran a complete update just yesterday. I tried running system update a minute ago, but wasn't given an option to install css 7.
Should i manually download/install it? and solve the firefox issue along the way... it seems there are many considerations prior installing css7 and since everything (else) is working very nice at the moment, i really wouldn't like to mess everything up....

CSS6 already does store fingerprints for passwords and in view of the troubles had with CSS7 I would stick with it. Others may now suggest otherwise.
You need to enable the password manager, I recall. I think you go to All Programs/ IBM or ThinkVantage/ Client Security Solutions. There is a thread here, somewhere, that told me how to do it. I will try and find it and post again. Back soon (unless someone can beat me to it...)

Back already...
From an earlier post of mine:
=============
Basically, you need to have the Client Security Password Manager 'CSPM' (padlock on red background) displayed in the system tray. There is a help menu, if you right click the icon, which may help once you have enabled the facility... Right clicking shows 'Create' and 'Manage' Run up your browser and go to a web page requiring a password or data. Right click the Create entry, on CSPM icon and this will open up the password manager dialog box. Enter your text in the password manager then, using the cross hair icon, drag the cross hair icon to the entry box on the web browser. Close the CSPM box. Close the browser and open it up again. Go to the same web page as before. Double click the CSPM icon and in a few seconds the fingerprint entry picture will come up. Swipe your finger and the data will be entered into the box on the web browser.
To enable the CSPM system tray icon, if I remember correctly, you go to the Client Security Solution program, probably in the ThinkVantage folder. (I have to admit that I forget whether you go to the advanced menu or simply click either ‘Use Fingerprint Software.’ I think that it may be ‘Set Security and Backup Preferences’ under Advanced, but for me to test it would mean destroying some settings, so it tells me. Hence lack of conclusive details.)
The other thing you will need to do is enable Fingerprints in the Password Manager Settings. To do this, right click the CSPM icon and select Password Manager Settings. Under the Policy Settings tab, set the three entries below fingerprint to Always.
==================
Hope this helps.

how did you manage to install css7? either software installer nor system update give me a option to install it and the lenovo websites says that
edit: it seems that css7 is already installed and i just discovered that i can run the configuration wizard, but it makes no difference. css7 keeps somehow hidden. i miss the privatedisk and the password manager !?!
what has happened to CSS7?The downloadable files for Client Security Solution have temporarily been removed from the Web. An updated version of Client Security Solution will be released shortly that addresses this issue.

I downloaded it a few weeks ago. Don't ask me how I managed to install it (probably about 10 times re-installed it) but now it is working perfectly. I think Lenovo finally realized that there were some serious problems with that release and lets hope they can fix it right this time.
But if you are interested I should have the files somewhere. Just let me know.

Firefox
I have just installed CSS7 and it seemed to go without too much trouble. I followed the instructions for installing the Firefox plugin successfully.
When define a webpage's logon information using the "Type and Transfer" tool, it does not recognize any firefox fields at all. Also, the recall keystroke Ctrl+F2 and Ctrl+Shft+G does not prompt for finger swipe as it did before for the managed passwords of other applications.
Right now I am less than happy with CSS7. I upgraded primarily for the Firefox support. I don't even care for the new interface.
Any ideas or suggestions on getting the fingerprint reader working? I am using BIOS ver 1.07. It seems that I will need to revert back to CSS6. (Not quite sure how yet.)
Thanks

zzyss:
a) You don't need the extension with CSS6.
b) CSS7 was there an hour ago. (on
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-63819 )
Just trying CSS7 out myself and it seems better....

Sorry, what do you mean? How do I get fingerprint reader working with Firefox on CSS6 then? (sorry if it's a dumb question. I asked how to do this in another thread, and I was pointed here, but there is plenty of information about the (dis)advantages of CSS7, but scant information about how to do actually do it)Nick Y wrote:zzyss:

Edit... well looks like that CSS7 version should be OK. The page with the takedown notice is dated 7/13 and the CSS7 download is dated 7/17...
T60p (200784U) - standard (no upgrades... yet)
You need to have the Password Manager working from the system tray. Then you simply use the Type and Transfer Tool to enter a password and then drag the cross hair, from T&TT, across to the entry box on the web page. The first part is perhaps the hardest, i.e. the PM, but as you seem to be moving to CSS7 it is perhaps irrelevant.zzyss wrote:Sorry, what do you mean? The version installed was the most recent on the Lenovo support website (about box says ver. 7.00.0022.00).Nick Y wrote:MadManMund: Which version of CSS7 did you install?
Perhaps I need to do some more reading and experimenting with CSS7 also. I will post updates if i overlooked something previously.

The application for the above is tvtpwm_tray.exe; perhaps you can locate it and try simply running it? (On my system it is in c:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution.)als814 wrote:How do I get the Client Security Password Manager back into the system tray?
Another possibility, although I should think almost negligible: is the tray application hidden? Right click Start; Select properties and then select Customize
