can Anybody recommend a good timer/reminder software?

#1 Post by bigtiger » Mon Jul 24, 2006 5:26 pm

I am looking a good reminder or timer software to use with my X41. can anybody recommend one? I am thinking of the following features:

1, Able to play some music after certain amount time, like play a mp3 file after 1 hour.

2, Able to set multiple timers.

3, EASY to set up. I know I can always use outlook but it is too much complicated for an easy timer.

Typical usage;

1, I want to be reminded within 35 minutes to take a look at the stuff in oven.

2, I want to be reminded to pick my daughter within 2 hours for a specific day.

3, I want to be reminded to call somebody within 15 minutes.

.......

This should be a very simple software. But I see few applications out there. Maybe I didnot use google the right way.

Maybe this is not what you want, but it is what I use. Go to Start > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks. Add a scheduled task to play a music file at a scheduled time. For the program to schedule, just point it to a MP3 file on your hard disk. Your default MP3 player will launch and play it. My default player is Winamp, but it will work with Windows Media Player or another program. As you go along, check box to "Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish". Then on the Settings tab, you can check the box to "Wake the computer to run this task." With this box checked, if your computer is in Standby, it will wake up to play the MP3.

The above works best for daily alarms, like when to get up in the morning. You can always go in and change the time, to reschedule for another time. You can also set up several scheduled tasks to play alarms at different times.

there are couple timer softwares but most of them only allow one timer.

Try yahoo widgets. There are couple of alarm and reminder widgets that might do the job.

No avail.

I guess I will have to write some Javascript code to do the job. I do not know why few people are working on this.

How about: http://sourceforge.net/projects/tea-timer

I haven't tried it personally but have heard several people talk about it.

Super, Super, Super. This is exactly the software that I need. Thank you very very much, K0lo.

The alarm software is also handy. It can be used as a good alarm clock but not a convenient timer though.

That's interesting to me that it can do that.

I assume that only works in Suspend Mode, not in Hibernate.

This implies that in Suspend Mode, there is still some hardware and software running that has a list of future Scheduled Tasks...

Yes, there is always a set of primary background "watcher" processes running in a volatile sleep mode such as suspend. You can also have the BIOS do "Wake on LAN packet" and it will wake the computer from both Suspend or Hibernation and begin to load the operating image that was saved. You can also schedule certain, professional defragmenters to do this as well. :)
