File synchronizer that has the ability to smart delete

Hi-

I am trying to find a program that will allow me to keep some directories in sync between my desktop and laptop but so far everything I have seen does a horrible job of handling items that are missing. If a file is on one machine and not on the other it either always adds it, always deletes it, or makes you manually specify an action for each file. What I want is one that might for example detect the last sync time and anything that showed up before then but isn't there now would be deleted and anything brand new would be added. I have seen this work in programs that sync outlook files as well as internet explorer favorites, but I have not been able to find a file sync utility to do this. I would REALLY appreciate any suggestions, links, etc. anyone might have here. Thanks for your help in advance!

Use Briefcase for file sync. It works very well for me, and I use it to keep files between Desktop and Laptop in Sync. ... JD Hurst

I wanted something with a little more power and customization that briefcase. Thanks for the info on SureSync though - I'm downloading the trial now so we'll see. I was hoping for something a little cheaper but saying I am having enough trouble finding a program like it that is the cost of it. Thanks for your help so far-

FileBackPC is the most amazing file sync utility I have ever used (and I tried many before settling on FileBackPC). It takes care of what you want by putting a hidden system file in each folder that's synchronized to keep up with what files were in each folder as of the last sync so that it can keep up with deleted files. It has a bunch of other features (like the ability to keep the last x versions of a file or not delete files until they have been deleted for x days). Very cool stuff.
