Migrating Favorites, Address book and Bookmarks to new TP

#1 Post by skygodtj » Thu Aug 03, 2006 12:24 am

Hello all,

I just got a new T40 and want to migrate my Address Book, Favorites, Bookmark, and Mail from my T23 (XP Home) to the new T40 (XPPro). I can burn everything onto a CD from the T23, or copy everything onto a second HD(USB) to move to new TP. Where do I find everything?

Outlook2003
InternetExplorer
Avant Browser(IE look-a-like)

Thanks

TJ

You might try the "file and settings transfer wizard". I've never used it so I don't know how well it works.

The default IE favorites folder is "C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Favorites" which may be hidden. See this:

For Outlook/Outlook Express see these:

Seconded. I've "used this!" and it worked just dandy.

If you're worried, clean out your IE cache/history files (from IE options), and then burn a cd copy of the contents of your c:\documents and settings\[your username]\ folder. Most, not all, but most of your personal favs, shortcuts, Desktop files, et al, reside under there.

Thanks guys.. I used the Thinkpad Migration app and it worked great, even across my wifi network! I hadnt used MS's File Transfer Wizard thingy before.. I usually backed up all my important data, did a clean install (or re-install) and either imported or typed in my addresses I needed. The Mail Folders and saved Mail.. well, if I needed a msg, it was usually on my desktop computer and I'd resend it to myself. Using the TP Migrate app worked very well. A lot easier than I would have thot. Now, when my new 80GB 5400rpm hd gets here Wednesday, I plan on using Acronis to copy the data off this 60GB onto the 80.. I had used Ghost a long time ago and it didnt go well, so I'm hoping Acronis goes better.

Thanks again,

tj

Dave, how do you get time for your battery life instead of % remaining? I have this T40 and I'd like to be able to have hours/minutes showing insteaf of % left. Is that a real display, or did you make it up for a sig line?

Power Manager 1.12 for T43s offers it, Battery Maximizer 1.38 doesn't. Need more info, please use SEARCH.

P.S. Do you fly tail-draggers? ;)

Yes he does, even though the 747 wasn't designed to be one!

ok, didnt know if it was only avail to T43's, looks like maybe it is. hmmm, I wonder if it'll work with T40's... 'think I'll d/l PM1.12 and see if it'll work. I'd rather have time showing than %

Thanks Dave,

Wahoo!! well, sort of.. I d/l'd PM v1.13b, installed and it looks like it works.. when I'm on the battery, it say 3:10. When I plug in the charger, it goes back to 98%. Only thing I see not "T40" is there are no power schemes to select :( so I guess I will have to go back to the T40 Power Manager... too bad, I'd much rather have an instant display of time remaining.

Got the Cub (Super Cub) and Citabria covered, along with some Beaver and Otter time, including float. Got my ancient rotary instrument and tactical rotary instrument cards framed on the wall.

I hope the hotel you're staying in is equipped to give that Atheros card a good workout.

No power schemes on a T40? I do on a test system at work. Should work.

I spent plenty of time in a Citabria Belanca, doing nighttime akro with my dad. Very fond memories, that.

yeah, it's strange, but the schemes windows, where normally would be High Perf, SuperSaver Battery, etc, the window is blank. I even tried making new schemes, both battery and AC, but nothing is saved.. I may uninstall and re-install when I get to DCA tomorrow..

I see ur in Durham.. when I ws flying for Am. Eagle in RDU, I lived in Cary... 11 of us guys in a single-wide crashpad near the airport..

The day I got checked out in a Citabria, my instructor (Bill) and I flew to Front Royal for a fly-in. Without telling me, he entered me in a soft-landing contest, I came out with 1st prize! When Bill told the announcer that I had a brand-new tailwheel sign-off, the announcer piped it over the PA to make all the old guys feel real good about comin in second to a guy with 6hrs of TW time.. I still have that trophy. Makes me smile every time I look at it.. Helps me with my wheel landings in the 757
