Safely remove MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-842 - Drive ( D: )

I keep seeing this message on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon... What is this? How to remove/fix for good?

T60p, Windows XP.

Thanks a lot!

Is it popping up periodically or is it just the icon in the tray area of the Taskbar? If it is the latter, then it is fine. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Thanks a lot!

It ONLY shows up when I place the mouse over the bottom right "Safely Remove Hardware" (grey-green colored) icon. No other appearances.

In this way, it shows up when nothing external is connected. It also shows up when an external device is connected, listed along with that external device. I can click on it, then I get a message "Safe to Remove Hardware".

Something seems to be working improperly here.

Any suggestions?

If I understand it correctly, it is working as it should. That icon is only present when a removable drive is present, and the optical drive is removable.

Nothing appears to be in an anomalous state as you have described it. The little pop-up is like a tooltip or a hint box. As Cloud! stated, it is normal as the optical drive is a removable device. That icon is pretty much always in the tray area of the taskbar as long as a removable device is detected; Windows classifies USB drives, Firewire drives, UPnP devices over the networks, PnP local devices, and the Ultrabay as devices that can accomodate removable hotswap/warmswap hardware.

As a note, the HDD adapter for the Ultrabay does not generally indicate itself as such; *however*, when the first stage removal tab engages and pops out, allowing you to pull out the drive, when the catch is released, the BIOS will detect this event and Windows will as well (through a HAL) and will suddenly pop the icon up and, after a while, will inform you that it is safe to remove the hardware drive in a little ballon tip from the aforementioned icon in the tray area of the taskbar. :)
