Network issue - attempting to synch.

#1 Post by jjfcpa » Sat Aug 12, 2006 8:56 am

I've had a recurring issue that is very annoying, and while I'm sure it's something that I am doing wrong, I can't figure it out.

I have two laptops that I always synch so that if one of them goes in the shop (rarely), I can switch to the other with no down time. Also, one of them is my travel laptop (lightweight T60) and one of them is my local (the one I use at the office) laptop.

They are both on the same "workgroup" network, but my local laptop (happens to be a D820) can't access my T60. It always says you don't have access to that device or some such.

It can see it in the list of network computers, but can't access it.

Yes, file share is enabled and the drive on the T60 is mark shared.

Anything else to check?

Go to the Network Adapter Properties on your T60 and make sure that "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is enabled. If that doesn't fix the problem, then look at your firewall settings on your T60.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

The firewall may be an issue, also check "allow network users to change my files" when you enable sharing on the folders.

Rons & Kyocera

Yes, I've already checked both of these. Typical gotchas.

Any other ideas? Thanks for your replies.
