Renegade pagefile

I don't what I've done, but I can't resize the pagefile.

After deleting it, rebooting, and setting it to the size I want, all is OK.

When I reboot, it reverts to the Win-managed size, but the setting on the advanced system properties page don't change. In other words, it still indicates the size I want, but the file is actually the size Win wants, which is twice as big. Also, the registry reflects my settings and not the actual size of the file.

Any ideas how to get control of this.
