Vista and T40's

#1 Post by skygodtj » Fri Aug 18, 2006 8:04 pm

Got the CD verson of Vista Beta installed on my T40 (2373-8CU). The platform is T40, 2ghz cpu, 512MB RAM, 20GB (yes 20GB, 4200rpm, it was only spare one on hand) HD. Loaded pretty quick in less than the time it took to load XP Pro. Eye candy is nice, even with my Radeon 7500. Backgrounds kewl, and sidebar.. well I like the aftermarket sidebar better as it has a LOT smaller icons and loads faster.. The problems I'm seeing is that, using Vista, a lot of packages for XP are not backward compatible, AVG antivirus, CPUID, NetStumbler just to name a few.. may be firewall settings.. will play with it lots more..

I'm using it now. Explorer is a little tough to navigate, no easy ways to get to the drives, other than typing in the drive letters (drive tree doesnt open).

I looked at the new faces of the menus and they were ok, but I went back to the 'classic' look. Got the updates loaded including the Atheros wifi card.

For me, Vista works pretty good on my T40.

Has anyone tried making Vista dual-boot with XP? I'd like to try to dual-boot Vista on my XP 80GB hd.

More later...

I installed the Vista beta when I got my 80GB drive a few weeks ago before I cloned my original XP installation...didn't really see much merit in it. Mainly it was because of the incompatibility issues that I wasn't happy with it, but I thought it was a little bit sluggish. Then again, your upgraded CPU will help in that regard. :)

It *IS* supported, just not with the fancy Aero graphics.
