The Welcome screen and Fast User switching on my T40, running XP Pro, no longer works.. when I go to Control Panel - Users - Change way users sign on, to enable it, I get this msg:
A recently installed program has disabled the Welcome screen and fast user switching. To restore these features, you must uninstall the program. The following name might help you identify the program that made the change: tvt_gina.dll
Searching for tvt_gina.dll, I come up with ThinkVantage Access Connections... the tvt_ file actually comes up in a number of places but the ThinkVantage AC is the most likely... what can I to do to get my Welcome screen and fast switching back besides removing AC?
Second problem I have is I'm unable to prevent files from loading during startup. On the Msconfig menu, unchecking ctfmon, tp4ex, RoboForm and a number of other files, I get:
An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Adminstrator account to make the specified changes.
I sign in using Adminstrator and I get the same error msg when I uncheck file names. This is very frustrating. It isnt every file, I was able to remove abt 15 apps that load, leaving 6 that I cant undo, but only 3 I want to..
XP Pro w/SP2, McAfee Suite ver 11(which I'm ready to ditch at this point) for other popups it has...
Any ideas on either of these items?
Thanks,
TJ

I have the Welcome Screen and am using Access Connections (4.12, but previous versions the same). Make sure the box Allow wireless connection at Windows logon (requires system restart) or Allow wireless authentication using windows logon user name and password under Configure > Global settings is unchecked.
I believe you will find all you need to know about tvt_gina.dll in the following thread.
