Help! Thinkpad shutdown problem
Help! Thinkpad shutdown problem
Hi,
I'm running XP on my new T42, and just yesterday I started having some problems when I shut down the computer. When I shut down, I get a dialog box that says "end program - sample." When I click "end now" a second "end program - sample" dialog box appears, and when I click "end now" on that one, the computer shuts down (though much slower than usual). I've checked the applications and processes and there is nothing called "sample." I've run updated virus scans and adaware and this didn't help. Anyone have any ideas what's wrong and how I can fix this? Thanks!

Right click task bar and choose task manager, there choose processes tab. There try to understand whether something extra is running. Not straitforward task, but with the help of google search you can identify all processes there. If only necessary processes are running try disabling the ones you can disable and see whether it solves your problem.

graphro, I didnt sign up to read that thread.
But, I also found this thread with google (though it deals with Dell's with the intel 2100 wlan card):
http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportforu ... e.id=30183
I would try installing/reinstalling the latest drivers for your wlan card and the latest Access Connections:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-55386
Maybe try disabling Windows Zero Wireless Config, unless you are using it. If you are using Windows Zero Wireless Config, perhaps try uninstalling Access Connections then.
BTW, there were also a lot of other results when I used "end program - sample" in a google search.
