One-partition Rescue & Recovery

#1 Post by monkeyofdoom » Thu Oct 05, 2006 3:02 pm

I have R&R 3 and want to use it as my backup solution. However, I have two partitions, System and Data, and I only want to backup System. This I have managed by excluding Data from the backup. So far so good.

Now when I want to restore the System partition, how do I restore just that partition? I obviously don't want to reformat the whole HD, because I want to keep my Data partition untouched. Yet, I cannot find any option for restoring just a partition in R&R. It may be that restoring a backup where Data was excluded doesn't affect that partition, but the warning text is ominous and says it will reformat the disk.

Has anyone tried restoring just one partition of a multiple partition setup?

Thanks in advance!

Well, I bit the bullet and just tried it out, it it left my Data partition untouched. I guess when R&R says it will reformat the hard disk, it's userfriendly speak for people who don't know what partitions are :-)
