Free Vista upgrade for XP systems purchased after Oct. 1...

#1 Post by truthiness » Thu Oct 05, 2006 8:37 pm

I read online today that MS will be allowing purchasers of Win XP Professional a free upgrade to Vista if they have proof of purchase for an XP system made on or after October 1. Does anyone know how flexible they are with that date? I would be 'on the bubble' after purchasing my system in Mid September... I know they have to cut the line off somewhere, but what are the odds of them bending the rules for those who ask?

For anyone buying in October, I would make certain the machines are certified for Vista, otherwise the free upgrade is worthless. I purchased an IBM PC300PL Desktop in 1999 than came with NT4 and a free upgrade to Windows 2000. It was certified for 2000 and runs very well with 2000. I also know a number of laptops manufactured in 1998 and later were certified for Windows 2000.

Not as many machines were certified for XP, and a number of problems foisted onto XP are really uncertified machines. So buyer beware. ... JD Hurst
