Windows Vista a prealoded IBM pack

#1 Post by Cecilia76 » Sun Oct 08, 2006 3:21 am

Hallo,

I have a T42p since september 2004. I have installed on it the software bundle pack with the original preload CDs in Italian.
As you know, next year we will have Vista.
Do you think will be possible for me to buy a new preload CD set from IBM in Italian with the new OS? Where could I find the FRU number?

Thanks in advance, Cec.

Only if they, first, make a Vista preload for the T42p and, second, if they support it. I think it won't be instant though, as there will be at least a little lag time. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

another option is to do what i did. i found the preloaded program setup files and drivers are on the c drive in the program files folder under ibm tools iirc. just copy all those folders to flash drive or cd and install them in vista. that worked for me last night, and all the pre-loaded software i have put on vista so far is all compatible, installed and are working fine....

I have not seen IBM offer new preloads for an existing system with a new OS on it. That doesn't mean they won't, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.

The only system I know of or had that came with an upgrade was my PC300PL in the basement. It came as an NT4 Workstation machine with a free upgrade to Windows 2000. Those machine came with Microsoft CD's, not preloads. The 300PL came with an additional CD of IBM drivers.

That is the way some HP Laptops come: Microsoft XP CD with COA and a second CD with drivers and apps to tie it all together.
