XP upgrade on 770 base model

#1 Post by bulldog » Sun May 16, 2004 12:54 pm

I have done an XP upgrade on my 770 but now the system doesn't see the UltraBay nor can I hot/warm swap the DVD/Floppy.

Any suggestions on how I can recover this function? I have tried using the Install Device wizard but it doesn't see it and trying to pick the bay as an IBM specific device, it doesn't show up in the list.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. :D

Is it a 770E, ED, X or Z? Run the Windows XP installation supplement files: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-40062 Also follow these steps http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4G86EQ Although it refers to Win 2k, it should work with XP too.

According to Microsoft Windows XP setup guide for IBM ThinkPad systems "ThinkPad 770 systems do not support Windows XP." That said, considering that Win2k runs adequately on a base 770, why would you want to upgrade to WinXP in the first place?

The other 770xx models have various limitations which are described in links from the above document.
