IE will not run except maximized

#1 Post by jsteele » Sat Oct 28, 2006 12:57 pm

All of a sudden, for no reason that I can discern, IE 7 (Final) suddenly will not run in any mode but maximized. I cannot set it to any size smaller than the full screen. Clicking the icon results in IE opening and appearing on the taskbar, however the window does not appear on screen. The only way to see it is to right click and select maximize --- there is no "restore" option and no way to pull the borders in from the screen edge.

Anyone have any ideas why thi is happening and what to do about it?

Have you tried moving it then dragging a corner to resize after you get it in maximized mode?

Also, you could try making a shortcut that runs IE from the get go as a "Normal" window. :)

Yes, I tried the corner drag, etc., all to no avail. But, as suddenly as it started doing this it has stopped and I did nothing. I spent about an hour opening and closing browsers and it would only run maximized. Then suddenly it started working normally and has been since. I hate Windows :-)

F11? No it opened in a bordered full screen window, not the full screen mode.

Just your normal Windows behavior: Plug-n-Play, plug it in and play with it until it works :-)

Ah ... so it wasn't actually full-screen (ie maximized), but it was a window the size of the full screen, that could not be resized?

If that's the case, I would bet on some poorly designed Javascript that was preventing the resizing of the IE window until you killed the process.
