Z61t Vista using Port 8

#1 Post by RiverFly » Fri Nov 10, 2006 9:19 am

I have a Z61t with Vista loaded on it. For some reason something is using port 8 (causing network guys to think I have a virus). Could it be a TVT tool causing this?

Thats usually a server port, like a web server for example.

Here's a list of port numbers with a description of what they do.

As you can see, port 8 is unassigned.

Doesn't really help you, I guess, but it confirms that the port has no "official" use. Could be any software, although low port numbers are usually assigned to specific tasks.

Load up the TCPView tool from Sysinternals.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysint ... pView.mspx

It will tell you what application that have the port open.
