Recovery loading up everytime!
Recovery loading up everytime!
The problem is that whenever I boot up my T43 it loads up Rescue and Recovery even though I am not pressing the blue button!
My XP wasnt loading up so I went into Rescue and Recovery and did "restore to factory settings". After copying the files the system tells me to reboot the machine and follow instructions. However when I boot up the machine it loads up "Rescue and Recovery" when it should be going to the installation screen.
I have tried using a "recovery disk" that I made and it also gives me the same problem.
I checked fdisk and it tells me that there is one drive "IBM_LABEL" and it is 650mb. Is my drive corrupt? or is there a flaw in the Rescue program?
I had the latest "Rescue and Recovery" program on my drive and my T43 is in warranty.

I know with the Product Recovery Discs, when you boot up from the first disc, you enter Rescue and Recovery. You tell it to restore Factory Contents, and after copying the software from the discs and a reboot you get back to Rescue and Recovery again. You have to again tell it to restore Factory Contents again, then after several reboots, you should be back in business.

Maybe you have lost some critical files on the C: IBM_PRELOAD (Windows) partition.
Just to make myself absolutely clear. When you first go into Rescue and Recovery and tell it to Restore Factory Contents, it copies files to your hard drive, then it reboots into Rescue and Recovery again. You have to tell it to Restore to Factory Contents again before the actual restore takes place. Look at the last several posts in this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=4683
Also, check the following BIOS setting: Set Pre Desktop Security to NORMAL.

I first did "restore factory settings" - copying files etc... then I got an error message - "there was an error during initialization"
So I reboot my system and I get the following error: "remove disks or other media - press any key to restart"
I then use my "recovery media disk" (not product recovery) and I press "restore my entire hard drive and personal data" using cd - copying files... - then it tells me to remove disk and reboot. Rescue recovery loads and then it asks me to insert disk labeled "Final C:" - I dont have this disk and only have the disk I created when I used "Create Recovery Media"
What is the disk labeled "Final C:"???

It's looking for the Product Recovery Discs, which unfortunately I gather that you do not have. You can order them from Lenovo for about $50. I've heard that sometimes if you present your case well enough, they will not charge you for them.
There are two different pages of Product Recovery CD's, depending upon your machine type model number. You can find this number on a sticker at the bottom of your T43, and in the BIOS setup main screen as the first four digits of your System Serial Number. When you find the number, go to the appropriate page below.
Recovery CD part numbers - ThinkPad T43 (1871, 1872, 1873, 1874, 1875, 1876 models)
Recovery CD part numbers - ThinkPad T43, T43p (2668, 2669, 2678, 2679, 2686, 2687 models)

Thanks for the advice - apparently when you "create recovery media" you need a cdr and a dvdrw which creates a cd and a dvd - however because I do not have a dvdrw - the process only completed one cd -
therefore I cannot restore the drive - a flaw in the software - maybe they need to explain a little better that when you "creat recovery media" the cd will not install an OS if you do not create the DVD!!
I am in the UK so I hope that they can send me the product recovery disks asap.
