PCMCIA Media Reader that works on Vista

#1 Post by RMD » Mon Nov 27, 2006 12:53 am

I want to take advantage of ReadyBoost on Vista, but my T42P doesn't have any internal media readers such as compact flash or SD card.

Can anybody recommend a PCMCIA-based media reader that will work with Vista? I see several out there, but none confirm that they work with Vista.

The basic PCMCIA readers may be supported out of the box. However, I don't think they are fast enough for ReadyBoost. And the CardBus-based ones (I have a Delkin) don't have any drivers on their web sites yet.

I think your best bet -- if you want something now, rather than in three months -- is to contact the vendors and ask them about their Vista support schedule, and the possibility of beta drivers.

I have a SanDisk one which works initially and then drops off - i.e. disk vanishes from the system. Reinsertion bring it back for a while but after that the time after which it disappears becomes shorter and shorter with every subsequent reinsertion - almost like it's being affected by heat. It worked perfectly with XP!
