Vista has only been released to corporate customers. I've seen a demonstration of the RTM code, and despite my earlier misgivings, it seems to be a pretty nice improvement over XP.
The interface for one is much slicker. I really hated the 'Luna' theme in XP. Aero Glass looks much more professional.

Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

I've had a beta copy for a while, but am antsy to get the public release version. I saw them talking to one of the head honchos at MS on PBS the other night and the way they were interviewing him it seemed like it was getting ready to his the stores before X-mas, that'd make a nice present for me from my girlfriend
There might be any possiblilty to join one of the launch tours across your country. MS will be giving away copies of vista business and office prof.
Here in Germany some software distributors are selling vista system builder versions beginning mid of december. so watch out for some holesalers and their announcements when they actually ship vista.
The offical statement from MS was end of january 2007.
But i would advise you to wait until mid of next year when all hardware and software vendors will get out vista compatible drivers and programs. Unless your depending on vista righ now it's still very early and will bug you with some isses here and there.
