Vista on T42 - Problem with Wireless on/off

#1 Post by noetus » Fri Dec 01, 2006 8:04 pm

I have installed Vista on a T42 and installed the usual IBM drivers, Vista where possible (currently the Trusted Platform Module only for T42/p) and the XP drivers everywhere else. I left the Bluetooth driver as is (am using the Vista-installed one) but got rid of the Vista-installed Wireless drive and installed the IBM one instead, as I read on the forums that this is a better match with Access Connections.

I got two warnings, one from the UltraNav (this was from Vista after bootup - it would warn me every time so I had to turn the notification off) and one from the PowerMax audio driver (this was from the driver installation itself - I switched on the XP Compatibility for the Setup file and it installed ok).

I haven't done any extensive tests now that everything is installed, but already I've noticed a problem. Fn-F5 shows the dialog for switching Bluetooth & Wireless on and off, and shows the Wireless as off even though the green icon below the screen is on. It won't let me switch it 'on', either. Access Connections also says that the Wireless is off when I try to Find a network, and does nothing when I respond 'Yes' to 'Should I turn the Wireless network on?'. I haven't tried the Windows wireless management extensively, which is working at the same time, but the one time I did try to connect to an available network it didn't work.

Maybe I should try to roll back to the Windows-installed drivers, and dispense with Access Connections? Or is there something I can do to make AC work? (I prefer it, with the Profiles, etc.)

thanks :)

Hi.
I have a t60p and only using the 4 drivers from lenovo (video, modem, power mgt and ultra nav) waiting for real vista versions of the rest. the wireless is a pain you can use the new key windows key and X to get a "mobile menu" where you can turn off and on the wireless radio. the fn f5 only toggles the bluetooth for me. for now until access connections is compatible its a pain because you manually have to switch on and off the wireless or you have 2 networks when you have the wired plugged in. I am also having some vpn issues, it connects but i can't browse our network.
anyways hope it helps, thats my experience
