My experience was trouble free and well within their predicted time frame. This involved the Asia-Pacific branch of Moduslink. I got an email confirmation/notification at every step.
20 Mar: filled in the online form, and emailed a scanned copy of my receipt
22 Mar: proof of purchase has been validated
4 Apr: notification to say it's been shipped
11 Apr: Vista DVD was delivered (EMS courier from Taiwan)
No special box or anything, just a CD sleeve with the disc, and a COA sticker to peel off and attach to the underside of the machine, next to the XP one. The disc mentions it's an Express Upgrade for a qualifying Lenovo PC only, so I assume it is BIOS locked in some fashion.

It seems mailing my proof of purchase took. My validation was FINALLY marked complete on April 13, a mere five months after the date of purchase. Neat.
They estimate 4-6 weeks delivery, but it seems they inflate that quite a bit. Here's hoping.
Now I have to decide whether to actually install it!

Some people have been really lucky with the turnaround. I submitted my info via fax the first week of Feb. I got an email confirming receipt of the fax three weeks later. Another three weeks went by and I got the shipping confirmation. Two weeks after that I got it.

still no Vista
I'll have to check the ModusLink thing again tonight. Last time I checked it was still pending... I think my credit card number got changed since I ordered the thing, thanks to the Wal-mart data leak, but ModusLink has all my contact information and they've never contacted me or tried to put through the charge on my card. All in all a frustrating experience to date.
Cheers!

I finally got notification that it shipped. Weird thing is they say it should take 3 weeks to arrive, but I have to notify them before 9 days elapses (not business days) should it not arrive within 3 weeks.
Weird, I'm just happy that after over 4 months its finally shipped. Now to go and get some more RAM for my T60.

#1. is no problemWhen mailing your rebate, please include the following documentation:
1. A copy of the online rebate entry confirmation page showing your Rebate Confirmation/Tracking Number or a printed copy of this email.
2. A copy of your invoice/order confirmation (received with the MS Vista Upgrade CD) showing the date of purchase and eligible product(s)
#2. I only got a packing list, with an "order date" of 4/13, which is far after the date on which i ordered from the website (2/15). 4/13 is not in the range for what the reabte is supposed to cover.
Does anybody else have the same problem and has anybody contacted the rebate processor to see what is going on with this?
Apparently my credit card details changed, so they canceled the order without notifying me. I say apparently because there's no record of why it was canceled.
I got a phone number and called, and eventually found someone who told me to start a new order, and he set the status to POP verified or something, and told me to fax in the receipt anyway. It now says "order is approved" but to quote Yogi Bera, "I'll believe it when I believe it."

My order was cancelled this week too...I guess I should remember never to order something where the card is going to be reissued before the card is charged. Anyway, I resubmitted the order and called...they moved it to POP/COA verified status without me having to re-fax the proof of purchase. Hopefully there won't be any problems now.

The package arrived Saturday by USPS, and I installed it yesterday. I nearly always boot into Linux anyway, so why not upgrade and live on the bleeding edge? Maybe I can help others who are having issues.
(It arrived in a plain paper sleeve, FWIW.)
The whole process took hours. I did an upgrade to Vista (I've never upgraded since Win95, and still don't recommend it, but there was really nothing to lose... except the XP cruft), let it complain about drivers, then downloaded the packages from Lenovo... then some more.
It seems to be working, from what little I've tried. I have a T60, BTW.

Mine came in plain dvd sleeve last month, i'm not sure why techgirl is the only person who got it in "nice DVD box".Techgurl wrote:Its here. Got my upgrade today. Came in a nice DVD box too.
Upgrades suck, I almost never perform them either. Do a disk cleanup, you'll find many "junk" files there to clean.whizkid wrote:The whole process took hours. Having waited for ModusLink to ship it since the first week of December, 2006, I've just discovered that they have decided to cancel my order. I know why. The credit card info I gave to them in December had expired. I've written to them on a few occasions explaining this would happen. They never read my e-mails.whizkid wrote:The package arrived Saturday by USPS, and I installed it yesterday. I nearly always boot into Linux anyway, so why not upgrade and live on the bleeding edge? I am quite [censored] off having to deal with such stupid and incompetent outfit.
Anyway, I may not need it after all. I've gotten a generic version of Widows Vista Business directly from Microsoft after I had attended a seminar. I understand that the upgrade I would have gotten is also a generic version rather than for Thinkpad T60. If that is the case, I don't need the upgrade.
Can you tell me exactly what you got?
Thinkoad T60:
T7200 2 GHZ, 5400 RPM 100 GB, 1.5 GB PC2-5300 DDR 2 , 15" SXGA+ 1400 128MB IPF TFT (Flexview), Thinkpad 11a/b/g/n

I also submitted mine in December and received it 3 days after the credit card that I gave them expired. Luckily, they charged me a few days before it actually did expire.
I haven't gotten around to installing it yet as I have to back up Windows XP first (and I'm currently mainly using Linux atm.) but the Disk does say Lenovo on it.
It will be interesting to see how Vista actually runs, I've played with it on a friends Vaio and wasn't actually all that impressed, heres to hoping that it runs better on the T60!

Call them at 800-817-5602. Explain politely exactly what happened. While they do have a problem, it's not the fault of whoever answers the phone. The guy I actually talked to was very nice and helpful.pinesol wrote:I am quite [censored] off having to deal with such stupid and incompetent outfit.

What I got is a paper sleeve with a Windows Vista Business COA branded by Lenovo Singapore. Inside is a DVD-ROM with Lenovo part number 42Y7111 called "Microsoft Windows Vista Business Express Upgrade" with the 32-bit version (as my T60 has a Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo).
I think it is exactly that: a generic upgrade disc. It will not put the same image on a machine that Lenovo puts on new machines with Vista.

What you see is what you get....
Just to add my 2-bits worth....
1- Moduslink took 4 weeks to deliver to me. No issues otherwise.
2- The DVD is a "standard Microsoft Vista DVD". The label says Lenovo, but it is the standard DVD. Nothing different from what you get by buying the retail boxed version.
3- What you DO get from Lenovo that is ALL-IMPORTANT is the COA label on the back of the DVD sleeve. This code is what unlocks the DVD installer as a Business version. You CAN install without entering the COA and you CAN stretch out the 30-day trial 2 more times (for a total of 90 days) but why do that if you are entitled to the installer?
So, what Moduslink delivers for the "upgrade fee" that actually MATTERS is the COA label. You can borrow anyone's Vista DVD to install the software. But to activate it you'll need the COA code.
Here's a summary of my experiences after getting the DVD:
--> I had no problem doing a clean install with the DVD.
--> I had no problem installing System Update 3 from Lenovo.
--> I had no problem....err...I take that back. Some of the ThinkVantage suite isn't really ready for Vista. But, that's a subject for another post.
Write to me with questions/comments. Good luck.
