here's my experience with the upgrade

I went to the upgrade site on March 13th and after 4 tries was able to input my information and finally arrived at the order confirmaton page.

the problem was that page did NOT have MY information but someone else's. i was horrified and know that the upgrade would be an uphill battle. tried calling the korean call number and got message to call within business hours.

called the next day, and after waiting 20 min. on hold was able to get hold of someone. i have him my information and what had happened (also gave the incorrect info) and he told me to wait one week.
ok..... i asked for an email confirmation of our conversation. he said he is not allowed to issue such email so i insisted on getting his name. I also put a complaint via email to have written proof of what was going on.

I called back a week later and after a 30 min hold, gave them my name and the lady said they don't have my case on file!!!!
I relayed my "disappointment" to the lady got transferred. eventually, their position was that my order was under investigation and they needed another week.
I decided to email again with pictures of my COA and machine serial number and proof of purchase. on the email, i demanded a response.

during this whole time, my COA was locked.

today, i recieved an email stating "COA approved"
what a relief... i immediately emailed the proof of purchase again.

here are some questions....

1. do they charge for shipping? (i have xp pro and the cost was "0") the site didn't ask for credit card info.... will they ask me to pay before they ship? i'm nervous...

2. how long does it take to get from COA approved to the next step?

thanks for reading...

I don't know about number 2 but I had to pay ~$11 US for shipping. It will be charged to my card (which I all-ready entered) if/when my order actually ships. I only submitted it a few weeks ago so I am not expecting fast turn around.

Sorry for the double post but the question is completly different... does anyone know if this DVD actually does contain all the versions of vista? I ask because I have an extra vista ultimate key that came with a RC2 version (given out at a MS launch event) but it is a full, no expiring, ultimate key. I know this because the second one I got is currently running on my wifes X60s and you can type the command in and it says no expiration date.

I used a "borrowed" disc for the other install but I would love to have a legit DVD for doing this second install. Also, can you downgrade a vista install? I would like to put this buisness version on the wifes laptop to free up the ultimate key again for another computer.

All vista versions are on the DVD (not including the other bit version - 32-bit and 64-bit versions are on separate DVDs). Every vista DVD (including the lenovo one) are idenctical. I compared the lenovo dvd to my retail dvd, my msdnaa one, and my brother's home premium one, and they all look exactly the same - no differences. So, you can use the ultimate key on any dvd.

I'm pretty sure you can do an upgrade with the version already installed (vista express upgrade), but I'm pretty sure that you can't do a downgrade. When you install without a key it says pick the version you have purchased or you will have to reinstall.

I received a letter a few weeks ago saying that my credit card had been charged for some 15 euros, and that my Vista has been shipped on Sunday (a bit strange) the 11th of March. I still haven't received my Vista, although it was sent three weeks ago. I wonder where they're shipping it from... The letter came from the Netherlands.

I applied on Feb, 2nd. and am still without Vista. My status is stuck on "Order Received" since March 11.

I am being tempted by other ways to get a copy of Vista just to get some personal satisfaction for the way Moduslink has treated me and just to say "Yeah, Moduslink TAKE THAT" but my conscience says no.

I don't know how long I can hold up. :??:

Send them an email with a pdf attached which contains a copy of your order with them and proof of purchase.

I applied for my upgrade during the first week of January.

I gave them all my details inc credit card details.

They sent me an email asking for POP but because i bought from ebay i didnt really have any, i gave up, never replied to the email and forgot all about it.

My friend actually works for MS in Ireland and he got me a retail version of Home Premium at an employee discount price. I have been using this and its great.

Today i looked at my emails and had one saying my order had shipped, i presumed this was for my own copy of Home Premium as i had asked them to ship me the 64bit DVD.

Looking at my credit card statement online i noticed one from MS Ireland and one from Moduslink.

I dug out the email asking for proof of purchase and the reference number matched the email i got today. I went onto the express upgrade site and it says my order has been shipped via spring (no AWB number).

Obviously there has been some sort of error as i didnt provide them with the information they required.

Just thought id share my experiance and will let you know when/if it arrives.

Thanks

Oh yeah, I'm the OP!

I faxed my information TWICE, sent it by e-mail and asked if there's anything else I need to do. I never got a straight answer. They either say "If you've done what we told you, that's all you need." or "Thanks" and nothing useful.

My order status is POP validation failed. Yesterday I mailed the information. We'll see if it ever arrives.

Mine supposedly shipped, but I'm not holding my breath until it shows up at my door. At this point my excitement is minimal since I've been running Vista for over a month now anyway...

Hi everybody!!

My experience was let's say like "set it & forget it" because it's all about time very long time more than ordering a CTO Thinkpad!

First, I filled all my info including my credit card. which was January 19. Like 2 weeks later I sent the POP via e-mail and not by regular paper mail, what I did was that I went to lenovo's order status page and click on sent by e-mail and sent it to moduslink.

By middle february I checked the moduslink (which I been checking periodiacally) my order status and found that my COA was validated which I thought that I accomplished with the requirements and wait again what's next to happen. 3 days later(by begining March) , I checked again and my order was aproved.

Then, "VOILA" today the DVD has been shipped!!!!

It shipped by: Mail Express maybe I think this is their website : http://www.mailexpress.biz/

Other thing, for those curious about their credit cards been charged while their order say "order received" and not other info about the shipping been provided don't worry!!!
I also been monitoring my bank acct online everyday and this transaction sometimes appears and sometimes disappear (I mean that they deduct me -$10.95 off my balance and some days I have a +$10.95 added on my acct) I think they do this porpuse periodically like a garantee of moduslink that by the end of the whole process they can charge "safely" the shipping fee and that's when it going to be cleared on your bank acct. in other words: they check if you really have money on your credit card and by the end they can have your money deducted and cleared.

So , don't think that you been charged by the first day/time.

I hope this helps and for anyone who did not make any upgrade redemption yet and I recommend do it in the way I did it which it was successfully on my case.

the website really was working the thing is that you have to wait until the page is fully loaded (it took about from 2 to 3 mins. to load which i Don't think many people wait this length of time and only 1 server was available with of course low bandwith)) so , I think some people quit waiting and close the browser before time i read about some people who sent info and the web did not work (apperently but not all)and days later checked the web order staus saying that their order had been received!

cheers!!!! :D

The best KEY of Electronic Proof Of Purchase is to send the invoice from lenovo's website order status page not from your personal e-mail to have your COA validated from moduslink.

how? Here is how below:

1. ok go to order status at lenovo's website.
2. click at "show invoice".
3. at top right page you will see "e-mail and print tabs"
4. click at "email tab"
5. write down the destination e-mail address at moduslink and make sure also to wirte down at the notes field : "windos vista upgrade program confirmation# xxxxxxx (your order number at moduslink order status)
6. click send and you are done, that's what I did!!!!!!!!!!!

They can confirm the invoice came from an official lenovo's e-mail address so there is no guess or cheat on obtaining a redemption upgrade from who is the sender other than lenovo OFFICIAL e-mail system.!!

I hope this also works!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't believe me you can try yourself just put your personal e-mail address as a destination on step number 5 , check you e-mail acct and you will see . of what you are sending to moduslink is exactly what you get when you put your own e-mail address.

Well, it is an upgrade OEM DVD. If I had to guess, no COA, as it isn't necessary, since this is an upgrade version, and you have the XP COA. I would like to see a picture though.

It is just a normal Vista disk, the same as any other 32-bit version just with a black and white lenovo label on it. I'm not home right now, so I can't take a picture. It isn't lenovo recovery cd's, just one vista install dvd. Although it is lenovo labeled, the Vista dvd looks to be identical to my retail Vista dvd - I just went in and looked at the folders, I didn't do a MD5 hash of both discs or anything like that.

You also get a new vista COA sticker on the back of the paper dvd holder. This has your vista key. When installed, it shows as an OEM key because Control Panel -> System has *-OEM-* as the "Product Key" listed (replace the *'s with sets of numbers).

The vista key will also allow you to install vista without XP installed. I installed it on a completely formated harddrive, and it installed and activated fine. I didn't prompt for anything like XP media or a XP cd key.

I have not received my vista, it has been 10 weeks after applying now.

My status since March 11th says "Order Received" after going through COA/POP approved, sent to back office etc.

My order had also been deleted by their very unprofessional employees once.  :flame: :flame:

Has anyone actually installed the OEM Vista on a non-Thinkpad machine? While I was waiting for my upgrade disk to arrive, I bought a Vista Business from our university at a discount. Now I have the OEM upgrade DVD with me and am wondering if I could install and activate it on another computer?

I got my Vista disc today. It was cracked and unusable. No wonder, because it had been traveling the world for 4 weeks in a paper sleeve (the envelope was at least padded).

I knew that Vista might give me a headache, but I thought it would come only after I had installed it - I'll stick to XP for another year.

You've got the most important piece, the cd-key. Anyone's vista install dvd will allow you to install legally. All you need is the cd-key that came with the broken dvd.

I got the Home Premium disc through a free upgrade after purchasing an eMachines on black Friday. Only took FOREVER to get it, but it's worth it.

I like that you can skip putting the activation key in, and pick whichever version of the OS you want...lol
