Sounds like you are a victim of the PC Doctor 5 upgrade snafu that first appeared in late October. See following thread for more information.

PC Doctor 5
Thank you for the quick answer; I did read all the other posts about this issue. It is a far a way more complicated problem, how look-like in the first time! I did installed the Doctor5 at November 5 and somehow it is established itself in the registry and moved into the system restore files! So, no any way to rebuild a computer via any restore point- the "problem is coming back". More serious problem the different basic Windows tool "disaperence" and deactivation of the drivers- including my external one and one of my Ultrabay HD with an other OS. One other issue I did find - and read an other post- is the mess up of the home office network set up. I had been connected- at home- three IBM think pads for my home network and now it is done. After a few week struggle the right click in the My Computer icon opening the "Doctor" and
what can I say: The computer crash into darkness after a few months.I have to rebuild the computer. The safe mode don't open and the My Computer is gone! I did scan everything via my Ultra bay second HD- and no any virus or Spy ware treat here. The Lenovo System update deliver a lot of "strange" creatures and no way to contact them abaut this issue! But once again: thank you for the aswer and wish you all the best!

With that many problems, I believe the best and fastest solution would be to do a reinstall of Windows. I do not know if you have a Rescue and Recovery service partition in your model ThinkPad. You never said which model ThinkPad are you inquiring about; the A22m or the R40?
If you have the blue Access IBM button, you might be able to restore your system as it came from the factory. If you do this, all existing data on your hard drive will be deleted, and a fresh install of Windows and the IBM software will be done. To Restore Factory Contents (if you have that option); at the beginning of the boot sequence (while you see the IBM logo) press the blue Access IBM button to enter the Rescue and Recovery area. Note: At least some ThinkPads can get there by pressing F11 instead of the blue Access IBM button. Once in the Rescue and Recovery area, choose the option to Restore Factory Contents, and follow the prompts.
If you do not have the option to Restore Factory Contents, you can buy the Recovery CD's from Lenovo for about $45 I'm told. Otherwise, get a Windows Install CD and install Windows by booting up from it. If you go this route, you might want to consider reformatting the hard drive and doing a clean install - just in case you were infected with a virus.
