How do you stop the Security Centre icon on the sys tray?

#1 Post by CyberDude » Thu Sep 09, 2004 9:52 am

Since XP SP2 I now get this stupid icon in the system tray telling me the firewall is not on. I already use Sygate's FW so have truned off the windows one. I have unchecked all the boxed in the security centre not to show the icon in the sys tray but every time I log in the thing pops up saying my FW is not on. GRRR

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have anything against running the xp firewall. no computer is bulletproof, so every little level helps. I would actually reccomend running it unless you have some reason that it hurts your system.

The Security Center icon will no longer show up in the System Tray once all three settings (Firewall, Anti-Virus,and Automatic Update) are satisfied.
One of them must not be satisfied, for some reason.
... I believe I had to say "no" to the sp2 firewall in two places, for whatever that is worth.

Here is a thread that will probably get you straight:

If you need a firewall, you should be running a better firewall, one that can block both incoming and outgoing. If you don't need a firewall, there's no reason to run a firewall.

To switch Security center off completely press start/run, type services.msc and press enter. You will get to services console. There find service named security center, stop it and then disable.

Gosha

P.S. You can get to services console via control panel/administrative tools

Thanks guys. I found where to set it to not monitored. It's not obivious as you need to click on the recommendations button to find it.

Cary91, I use Sygate FW already so don't need the M$ FW which might start interfering with the rulesets I have set up in Sygate.

I don't think he wants to disable SC

Only the annoying popup, but the other post did it for me.

Update: Even though I had selected to not have the FW monitored and have all the warning notifications turned off the Seeecurity Centre was still popping up periodically.

I have now disabled the service.

What the point of offering the option to turn off the warnings when they don't work?
