Fn+F5 doesn't bring up the config window anymore

#1 Post by cbell » Fri Sep 10, 2004 11:05 am

hello everyone,

just re-installed win xp pro and all the IBM apps and drivers. Fn + F5 doesn't bring up the black access connections window where you can select to turn on bluetooth and wlan. The combination only turns on/off the Bluetooth radio. No window appears. Same with the presentation director. Fn+F7 enables/disabled external video. No black window appears.

Anybody knows what is going on here?

Thanks,
Christian

I did install the hotkey program! Any other ideas? Seems like something else is intercepting the command!

Well, I'd double check that it is installed - even try installing it again.

Also, make sure that this is installed:

You don't mention your exact type/model - but the combination of those 2 should work on 99% of machines.

DCOM?

Did you by chance shut down the the DCOM or RPC services? I had done that on a friends advice, and lost the ability to use the hotkeys as a result.

Instead I turned all that back on and then just hit windows update for the latest more secure versions of those services.

ian, still can't get over the fact you used to drive an Uno. How about some pics in the off-topic forum? :) There's a couple around my neighbourhood here in NZ. I think you can get 'em new still. :)

Are you REALLY so bored that you read all the old posts? Seriously - I'll see what I can do - unusually (he lied) it's grey and wet this Christmas day here in SW France - given that the famous UNO is parked outside my flat waiting for my eldest daughter to pass her driving test, I should be able to get some interesting shots.

Sadly, having recently bought a German hatchback I've now become slightly more-than-interested in a beast called an RS6...not to everyones taste, but I would love to try one out.

Please forgive the brevity in my posts/replies but sometimes I get so mad at how serious people become...

I was told once by IBM support that unless you use Rescue & Recover to restore the system then the all hotkeys won't work. Don't know why. It's the reason I don't zap the hidden partition altogether. Did you use R&R to restore or use a generic XP installation?
