Turn stop key into windows key

#1 Post by gibblr » Sun Jan 28, 2007 5:13 am

Good day
I had found a tip for making the web stop key into a windows key. When I went to search for it I got between 1500 and 4611 matches for my search.
I am sure I will die before I I get a chance to read all those messages!
Can anyone help me out with this?
As I remember it was a bit of typing to make a registry entry

thanks in advance
Chad

These may help, but I haven't personally tried them:

http://www.hanselman.com/blog/Gryoscope ... nkPad.aspx
http://www.randyrants.com/2006/07/sharpkeys_211.html
http://www.usnetizen.com/fix_capslock.html

Note: they all appear to use a registry hack to perform this modification. You should take steps to backup the registry (or the appropriate section that gets modified) before attempting this change. If you are using XP, create a restore point.

edit: Another site I ran into suggests other methods than the one listed in the links above due to problems with some keys after the registry hack has been made:

One suggestion is to download the IBM Keyboard Customizer Utility, which I believe is available only on the "newer" systems (T40 and later).

Thank you everyone

I will give them a try and post my results

Tried the tip from rkawakami it can be found here
http://weblogs.macromedia.com/cantrell/ ... g_your.cfm

You just copy the text to Notepad, go to Save As, and the drop down arrow beside Save As Type select All Files then in the file name give the file a name such as “winKey.reg”
Use the quotation marks to ensure that notepad does not save the file as a text file.
Then double click on the file and confirm that you want to enter it into the registry and then reboot and you will have the right ALT key as a Windoz function key.

thanks again people
Chad

UPDATE

This does not work so good as it turns out!
It works fine until the system goes to sleep and wakes up, then random keys work and some dont, push the B key and get a period.
Midol does not help either.!
Apologies, that was bad!
anyhow, there are some bugs with this tip, off to try the next tip.
