#1 Post by Leeper » Sun Jan 28, 2007 11:00 pm

Is there a version of Software Installer or System Update that works on Vista?

Here's System Update 3.0 for Vista. If anyone here got the link of Software Installer for Vista (beta is ok) please also share the link. Thanks.

System Update 3.0 for Vista

#3 Post by johnp126 » Mon Jan 29, 2007 6:52 am

Hi.. is this Real release not beta? I'm confused, if i have it check my system type it finds my system and vista and those downloads or the device matrices. when i go to thinkvantage it shows v2.x, however your link goes to 3.0. It does not show beta anywhere so I am confused.. It states release in Dec 2006 but if so why isn't it on any other the other pages? Any info will help. I like to keep current but don't want beta code.. thanks

Only Lenovo knows it's beta or final but it's working fine on my T60 with Vista.

I've been running it for a while on my T43. It seems to work fine; it connects and checks for updates, but I've never had it actually find any updates. Does it find updates for anyone?

In my case, the System Update don't work. It starts loading and disapears...without any error message

I'm with margolin, it installed and ran just fine, but I never had it find an update, even when it seemed like there should be some (after a clean install).

I just got vista a couple of days ago, but just today I actually downloaded the power manager or something with it. I read somewhere that they're going to (or should) release all official updates on the 30th, so just wait I guess.

I just tried System Update 3.0 yesterday evening on a fresh install of Vista and it found nothing. I had to manually pull drivers from the Driver Matrix.

From what I read on one of the lenovo blogs (www.lenovoblogs.com) someone @ Lenovo needs to update an xml file or two so that we can start seeing updates... even though the current version of system update is "vista compatible".

As for the x300 discussion, yeah sadly the x300 was a downgrade from the 9600.. not much, but a downgrade.

Glad I got my 9600 when I did

I can confirm this. System Update was the first thing I installed, hoping it could download and install everything else afterwards. I wasn't that lucky at all :(

The latest version of software installer on my XP system is no longer finding anything, either. It is going through the motions, but not coming up with new things that are there (because I downloaded them manually, and know they are there).

Lenovo has said this product is more or less dead in terms of development while they fix System Updater. Unfortunately that product is *so* backward and deficient that I gave up on it. I will check on it again sometime.

I downloaded System Updater 3 and installed it on my NetVista A30 Desktop. It installed there and runs.

It finds new updates (I saw the updates in the download area on Lenovo but didn't download them). So this is new and good.

Unfortunately, unlike SI and my big beef, it does not:
* Allow you to work without being connected
* Allow you to determine where things are stored and where to download
* Allow you to install what you downloaded manually.

So SI does what I want (but no longer finds updates) whereas SU is still very backward (but does find updates). What a Hobson's Choice.

Access Connections 4.31 (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67283, the full package with drivers) includes a new version of the software installer which works great on Vista. Most of the stand-alone installers include the swi.xml that SI uses to find available packages on the hard disk, so that's a nice way to install all packages with a few clicks. It won't go online though to find new packages.
