It is best just to make a known good copy of the recovery CD's from that machine. Then, you have the backup you are requesting here to recover the machine if need be. That is the only machine you can use your OEM license on. ... JD Hurst

See sticky at top of Windows OS forum.

EDIT: I would second what jdhurst recommended. Brings everything back to the factory state, including the Rescue and Recovery service partition.

Yep. To make the set, you need one CD and one DVD. The CD is used first to make the Startup disc, and the DVD to make the Recovery disc. You can use all CD's if you prefer, but it will take about 7 CD's total.

You can create the single boot cd as many times as you want but the full set only once.

Is this really true?!!
That is bad news for me. When I did those disks I had some problems with a couple of error messages...of course not written down  I was able to finish the disks though.
Also I did them on CDs and it would be nice to have them on a DVD instead.

I'm making a set on CDs right now. Although using a DVD would be handier, I decided to go with the CDs because I can make isos of the disks and put all of them onto one DVD, including the recovery disk iso. Then I"ll put the DVD into my safety deposit box and in the unlikely event I need them, or when I sell the unit, I can produce a set of CDs to accompany the machine when resold.

If you image your machine's hard disk regularly with something like ghost or acronis, the only likely future use for these disks would be when you sell the machine and they can be used as a selling point.

You might want to consider saving the isos on another hard disk if you have the space. I've had the odd CD become unreadable over time and if that happened to one of these disks you would be SOL.

If it did not complete properly it may let you create another set. Give it a try.
If you can't make another set now you will be able to make a set after you restore the computer using the onboard recovery system.
