Lenovo Acc.Connections & Power Mgt SW or Vista built-in
Hello!
I'm just thinking about, if I need to use the Lenovo SW (Access Connections & Pw Mgr.) or if I can use the built in tools from Win Vista? For the Power-Mgr. Vista updated a lot and I think the only reason to use the Lenovo Pw-Mgr. is to check the battery-status and maybe calibrate the battey?! What's your opinion?
What about the Access Connections? Anyone of you is using them, or do prefer the vista built-in network-manager-sw?
Currently im only using the vista built-in SW but i have some trouble while changing the network-connection from WLAN to LAN (Vista doesn't deactivate the WLAN while using LAN) - maybe I didn't find the settings ?
Would be nice to read some opinions from your experiences...

Personally, I prefer the built in Vista networking, but that's because it does something that AC never did: auto-scan both A and G networks.
At home I have an A network. Most other places have B/G.
AC only ever scanned for networks in the same band (A - 5.8GHz) or (G/B - 2.4GHz) and wouldn't auto-select a pre-configured network in the other range which made pretty annoying to me. Vista works perfectly in that it 'just works'.
Perhaps when using the Verizon/Cingular WAN cards AC might offer something extra, but it doesn't for me.

Actually the Vista-version is really good, but i doesn't detect if I'm plugged to a LAN or using WLAN. The WLAN is always on and I must turn it off manually - I didn't find any other solution for itwarder wrote:Personally, I prefer the built in Vista networking, but that's because it does something that AC never did: auto-scan both A and G networks.

I've actually got it all working on my T41p (2373-GEM) except for the same issue in that the Wireless won't turn on or off via Access Connections.budspencer wrote: Actually the Vista-version is really good, but i doesn't detect if I'm plugged to a LAN or using WLAN. I wonder if anyone has found a solution?

I think it's actually the opposite for most people. The one thing that Access Connections does that the Vista version does not is to automatically turn the built in wireless on and off. If I plug in an ethernet cable with a connection, Access Connections knows to switch to the wired profile and to power down wireless. If I unplug the ethernet cable, AC knows to power up wireless and start looking for wifi connections. Pretty nice!kiwimeat wrote:I've actually got it all working on my T41p (2373-GEM) except for the same issue in that the Wireless won't turn on or off via Access Connections.budspencer wrote: Actually the Vista-version is really good, but i doesn't detect if I'm plugged to a LAN or using WLAN. Turns out there are good reasons to use the power manager as it talks with two chips (on on the laptop, one in the battery).

That worked....eventually
I installed AC 4.31 with the Wireless Drivers.
No change.
I had to force installation of the correct Lenovo driver which Microsoft insisted wasn't correct for the hardware.
Picked the install location as ..\Drivers\W2K\Acconwld\Atheros\Driver\Vista32 and selected "11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter"
Clicked Next and forced the install by selecting Yes.
Access Connections and now powers the Wireless on and off using FN+F5.
Very Happy about that.

Newest Access Connections works fine for me. As for the 802.11 a/b/g/n Atheros driver Lenovo doesn't have it, but it is a new update for Vista.
