Unknown Device: Vista on T43

#1 Post by JHaislet » Fri Feb 02, 2007 11:38 am

I have an unknown device in Vista and can't seem to find drivers for it.

I've tried installing the Intel INF chipset updates, but they do nothing.

See if the solution posted by gsuser will work for you. gsuser was referring to XP - not Vista, but the problem was the same.

This is really strange. I went through Device Manager again, cross-referencing it with the IBM Driver Matrix and saw that the Winbond Trusted Platform Module wasn't listed in Device Manager.

It installed right away once I got the correct driver from Lenovo.
I'm wondering why Windows Update didn't pick up on this? I recall it being installed with XP for awhile now with Windows Update.

Also, has anyone tried Software Update 3.0 with Vista?
That was one of the first things I installed and it never once told me there were any drivers I needed, yet there were a number of unknown devices in Device Manager. I think Software Update 3.0 is broken or someone forgot to add the hardware recognition strings for certain T43 models.

su3 seems slighlty broken for the time being.

i tried it on a t41 on vista, found no drivers, looked at the downloads available manually and found a few including a video card driver for me ati 7500, yay!

su3

someone pointed out that they (lenovo) need to update some code on the web to have the drivers show up in the su3 program. also i remember hearing a while ago from lenovo that they post first on device matrices / drivers section and then when sure they are ok they post to su3. because they want su3 to be the "stable" drivers for a corporate world, it usually takes time to get there. for the first couple of months until i am satisfied that everything is working well i will manually go find the drivers, after that i'd say it would be in maint mode and then i can live with the su3 taking its time. just my opinion.

Sounds like a good plan. I did not realize they used the driver matrix as a quasi testbed before putting those drivers on System Update. Thanks for the info.
