ATI CCC not working

#1 Post by yballaw » Sat Feb 03, 2007 10:26 am

I've got a problem with the Graphics Driver on my FireGL 5250 (Thinkpad T60p). The ATI Catalyst Control Center won't start and keeps on telling me that cli.exe and mom.exe stopped working.

I tried the offical Lenovo FireGL Drivers (version 8.33....) and the new ATI Catalyst 7.1. both with the same result: The driver works the CCC not!

Does anybody know a solution for this problem?
(Reinstalling didn't solve my problem!)

Here is what vista says about the problem:

Have you tried uninstalling both the Lenovo and ATI drivers and just using the Microsoft one through Windows Update?

I ask because the ATI drivers for me (on X600) didn't add any noticeable performance improvement, they just installed CCC and MON that sit around eating memory.

Original MS: 3.7, 3.6
Catalyst 7.1: 3.7, 3.6

@warder:

The drivers work without any noticeable problems. I just want to use the functionality of the CCC so driver only is not an option.

I had the same problem.

I uninstalled everything and started with lenovos package driver only. After that i downloaded ati's latest catalyst software and installed only ccc without the driver.

Actually this combination works for me.

I tried what 'arni' did and installed only the ATI driver supplied by Lenovo and the CCC from the ATI website. But CCC is still not working. Does nobody else have these problems?

Thanks

I am running Vista Ultimate on my T41P. It has the 128MB FireGL T2 GPU. I haven't updated the drivers and everything runs great. I am curious as to hwo Vista is reporting 284MB of gaming graphics though. I think the driver is setting aside some system RAM for use with the video if it needs it.
New:
Thinkpad T430s 8GB DDR3, 1600x900, 128GB + 250GB SSD's, etc.
Old:

ThinkPad Tablet 16GB 1838-22U
IBM Thinkpad X61T, T61, T43, X41T, T60, T41P, T42, T410, X301

The Vista ATI drivers a working. But Vista does not supply the CCC (Catalyst Control Center) which is giving you some more options.

Yes, the ATI cards can take some system memory. ATI calls this HyperMemory I guess.

The only problem is that the ATI driver won't install on a FireGL v5250.

I tried the 7.2 drivers and have rolled back to the original Vista ones, even deciding to skip the 7.1 version.

For some reason 7.2 has 2 issues:

- Keeps swapping my external screen to be right of my laptop screen rather than left

- Desktop icons and the background 'moves' a little under other windows/when other windows are selected. I.e. there is a drawing issue.

Since there was absolutely no performance gain recorded in the Vista Performance Index using the Catalyst drivers, and my computer is about 50MB lighter without CCC, I'm going to leave it with the original MS driver...
