T60 Standby and Power Scheme issues

#1 Post by elee102 » Sat Feb 03, 2007 10:59 am

Hello,

I am currently running Vista Ultimate OEM on a T60 (1953DDU). I've installed all the up to date drivers off the Lenovo website. The 2 issues that I seem to be having are as follows:

1. Display never turns off, screen saver never comes up, and machine never goes to standby even after the set idle time.

2. Power scheme is always confused on startup, machine always thinks its on battery, meaning that I need to unplug and plug it back in, in order to get it back to full brightness.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Don't know for sure, but I'd try creating a new power scheme from scratch. Also, which order did you install the software? I would do:

1. Power management *driver*
2. System interface driver
3. Power management software.

If you did not do them in this order, uninstall them all and do over

I did create a power scheme from scratch and I just used the software installer to install all the drivers and utilities so I have no idea in what order it was installed.

I will give your suggestion a try though.

Thanks

Just did a clean install and installed those drivers in that exact order, and I'm still having the same issues.

Funny thing is that I have none of these issues in XP, so I'll assume that it is definitely not a hardware issue.

Anyone else have any experience with this issue?

Same problem here. Thing is if I use one of the default power schemes everything is fine. However, if I create a custom power scheme then I get the same problem, the computer thinks it is in battery power.

I too have the same problem withe the power settings on my Z61p. All other drivers appear to be operating correctly apart from the power management.

Anyone come across a work around for this bug?

My T60 works perfectly, in fact I had straight Vista installed on my machine for 5 weeks before installing Lenovo drivers and either way it worked/works fine (mnus some features). I suspect a hardware issue myself. Try starting the machine and look for "Microsoft AC Adapter" under Batteries in Device Manager. if not there, does it appear after unplugging and then replugging the adapter?

IN DM, check for SM bios sevice under SM Driver

Check for Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller under System Devices

Turn off system, unplug adapter, unplug all batteries, wait 30 seconds. Then plug everything back in and reboot - does that fix?

Did a power cycle, that did not work. I do believe it has something to do with the SM bios as there is a question mark beside it in DM. Anyone else seeing this? I also called tech support and at that time, they weren't aware of any problem but they are going to forward it to the right people.

That is the Lenovo System Interface Driver. I would uninstall (using Programs and Features - easy to find there), reboot, and reinstall. Perhaps that will create some joy

Is the bios relatively new?

Bios is version 2.09. I updated from 2.01 because I was having a problem overheating when doing extensive work. I was hoping 2.09 resolved that. The problem started right after I updated the bios. Going to reinstall the Interface Driver and see if that does indeed fix the problem.

Well, after doing a complete uninstall and reinstall of the interface driver, nothing changed. Guess we'll just have to wait until Lenovo releases a new bios.

i had and still have that problem after installing windows vista business edition. i think it might be problem in the lenovo software. I've been using vista power manager on balance scheme instead of lenovo power manager.

I have similar problems with my T60 (Type 2007) and Vista. When booting or switching to a new power scheme (only when using Lenovo Power Manager) the machine uses display brightness settings for running on battery even when running on AC.

When going to battery and back to AC everything is OK. After display switched off due to the timer settings everything ist OK too.

I think it´s a Lenovo Power Manager bug because the problem is gone when using Windows to switch power schemes.

Power management driver and system interface driver are installed.

Got another power management problem for you all. For whatever reason, Vista seems to reset the Wireless Adapter Power Saving Mode to "Maximum Power Saving" (under Advanced Settings 1) for the AC adapter settings whenever I come out of sleep/standby. This despite setting this to "Maximum Performance". Anyone experience anything similar?

Ya'll with the problems don't by any chance have Logitech's mouse or keyboard software installed?

I downloaded their BLOATED 30MB software program to gain the functionality of a couple more buttons on my Mx1000. The Logitech software would not allow the screen saver or the monitor to go into sleep mode. I don't have a hibernate/standby timer on my laptop (it's set to "always on"), so I don't know if that was affected as well, but I would assume it is since power management is all tied together.

Anyways, I uninstalled that Logitech crap and all my problems went away. Although now I'm stuck with a nice 8-button wireless mouse that functions like a simple 3-button.
At least my LCD won't stay on all night again

Just wanted to chime in with a me too. I just installed Vista tonight and the Power Manager does seem to default to battery settings on boot. Hopefully there will be a new version of Power Manager coming out soon. For now I may just uninstall it, but I'll give it some time first...

Do you use access connections?
You can set the power-settings there too, but I'm not sure that they override the power manager ones.
