Vista Media Player Issue

#1 Post by abstar » Sat Feb 10, 2007 2:58 pm

Hello,

I have just finished a clean install of vista, everything seems to be working fine, all the drivers are up to date. I have a x300 64mb card. My problem is that when I play a video file in Vista Media player almost immediately the audio and video become horribly out of sync. To troubleshoot, I have tried switching off all Aero effects and the sidebar, but it does not seem to have an impact. I also tried checking the option drop frames to sync audio option, but still no effect. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Workaround

#3 Post by abstar » Sat Feb 10, 2007 5:38 pm

I have a similar problem with VLC player in Vista as well. I found a work around for VLC by setting the output module to Direct X and setting it to output to full screen on start. Also the video needs to be loaded twice but it works! Still searching for a media player solution.

If I find out anything about that I ll let you know lol Yea I new about that fix for VLC but I use 8.4a because the Firefox plugin works well with the browser but the new VLC does not.

I had this issue for awhile with a new T60, so the hardware clearly wasn't the problem... For me, upgrading to the newest ATI drivers fixed it for me... Also there is a setting called "use video smoothing" that when checked would end up causing things to go out of sync. Checking drop frames to keep audio and video synchronized may help as well.

I tried that, but there seemed to be no change in performance. I also tried reinstalling the appropriate codec (XVid).

I think I have the solution, under tools->options->performance selecting full screen controls, video smoothing, drop frames and direct x acceleration seems to fix the lag problem.
