z60m USB 2.0 problem...ReadyBoost

#1 Post by Rukes » Thu Feb 15, 2007 5:11 pm

I have a z60m which I recently upgraded to Vista Home Pro. Everything is working fine, however the USB 2.0 key I got is not.

When I plug it in to my home PC, it immediately recognizes the drive and asks if I want to use it for ReadyBoost.

However, when I plug it into my laptop (which is plugged in by the way, not on battery), it takes about 3 minutes for the computer to detect the drive as a basic blank removable drive, then says I have to format it to use it, then it stalls attempting to format.

The key works fine in my home PC and is ReadyBoost capable, but i'm confused as to why it won't even be recognized on my laptop. Other USB devices seem to be working OK, like my Zen V.

I would plug the drive into Vista and then re-format it. If it was originally formatted on XP, that might be an issue. Sometimes XP just did not format it correctly - drives formatted on one machine were often not readable on another. Also make sure you select NTFS when you format instead of the standard FAT32...

It's all Vista. Came pre-formatted to FAT. Works perfectly fine in my other Vista machine. I can try formatting it to FAT 32 or NTFS I guess...but if it works on one Vista machine, it should work on the other.

I have a 2GB SanDisk Cruzer Micro flash drive that's labeled as "enhanced for ReadyBoost." It was pre-formatted to FAT. I had thought about reformatting it, but assumed that if SanDisk is shipping its ReadyBoost drives as FAT drives, there is probably a reason for it.

I'm thinking this has to be some issue with the ThinkPad USB 2.0 and Vista...

Do you have all the Lenovo drivers installed? I have a 1 GB Cruzer Micro that works just fine for ReadyBoost on both my Z61m as well as my HP Desktop - both of which run Vista (Business and Ultimate).

Yes, as far as I can tell. System/Software update doesn't reveal anything else I need.
