Weird Network Problems?

I don’t know if anyone will have any ideas but here we go…
When I am using the internet through my college’s network my ability to connect to any outside web pages seems to expire after a certain amount of packets. It is not necessarily a time thing, because the more things I am doing the faster it happens. In any case if I do a repair on that network connection all is fine again. Intranet stuff is always fine, and I can stay connected to someone over iTunes forever. I am thinking it is some kind of proxy thing. My roommate never has this problem, he is also running XP. So what do you think, short of trying to get some attention from the communications department?
