Fixed memory and cpu leaks :D

#1 Post by makaveli559m » Fri Feb 23, 2007 8:24 pm

I found a fix to fix all the memory leaks on Vista :D So now I run Vista perfect with 512MB of RAM. I am not kidding, except I still cant fix the explorer.exe error and Sleep and Hibernation problems.

It would be usefull if you share which stepd did you follow to reach it. By the way, it would be better if that screenshot were displaying Vista's Reliability and Performance Monitor.

By the way, please advise when posting pics (read forum rules).

Finally, are you sure that's not an Windows XP screen with a Vista theme? 193MB is too small for vista. Are you kidding?

He is using Vista, that's for sure.
Look at his page file usage and cache usage.
Vista's taskmgr is different from that of XP's.

That is definitely Vista. And no big deal either. I am running Vista on a 10.1 inch Sony Vaio that has a 1 GHz Ultra Low voltage Pentium 4M processor with 512 MB RAM out of which 4 MB is eaten up by the Intel graphics chip. Vista on this machine works fine - infact better than the XP Home that was on it.

I have also run Vista on a Dell Inspiron 8200 (from 2001) and it has 512 MB RAM as well - no problems at all...

So what this guy has done is nothing great! It's been done before and Vista was designed to run on 512 MB and do it better than XP. There is no fix!!! It's by design. You can always bring memory usage down by not starting services that you do not need. The only thing is if your graphics card is not powerful enough (or does not have WDDM drivers), Vista will run Vista Basic and not Aero.

Microsoft isnt awknowledging yet about the resource and memory leaks yet.
I like Vista except the problem still with Sleep and Hibernation really sucks!!!
I have an issue though that when I boot up Vista I have to type in Explorer.exe to get my desktop booted up
Does anyone know how to fix that problem?

Vista in general doesn't have memory leaks... The reason that the memory usage shows so high on task manager is that superfetch has cached applications and data into the RAM. If you subtract total - cached, you get the amount used by the system kernel and other applications.

as far as mem leaks go kulivontot nailed it

a temp fix for the explorer would be to add a shortcut for explerer.exe in the startup folder, I myself have no issues with mem leakage or sleep or the explorer....but diff systems react differently. You can also slim down the services a bit just like XP to free up some mem. One thing that alot of people misunderstand is that that when the free mem shows like 10MB dont mean that there is a massive leak, in fact its just cached and will be freed up when needed, on my t43 with 512MB after i close a game or a heavy app i have like 50% free mem. if you prefer not to have all the mem used up for cach you can try to kill the superfetch service in services.msc. I did that at 1st cause i thought all my mem was gettin wasted but after some readin i re-enabled it and just gave it some times.... few restarts and open/close my most used apps a few times and I'm happy :D

I seem to recall that Explorer runs the apps in the Startup folder, so I don't think that will do the trick.

However, adding c:\windows\explorer.exe to the following registry key ought to do it:

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
    Software\
    Microsoft\
    Windows\
    CurrentVersion\
    Run\
X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)
