Tried keyboard custimizer utility and remap. both don't work, i am pretty suprised that the thinkpad has no utility to close the function keys.......... it seems to be inbuilt into the hardware

And I am pretty surprised that someone will have such a problem with accidentally hitting Fn+F8 (?!) so as to get to the point where they want these keys disabled. ;)

Of course, some of them are built-in into the hardware, like the Thinklight and the screen brightness. I don't see any reason why Fn+F8 should be this way. Stopping the TPHKMGR.EXE process will disable Fn+F8, along with some of the other (perhaps useful) combinations.

I don't mean to laugh at your situation, but do you also accidentally hit Fn+F7 next door and turn off your LCD? Now that would bother me 8) I guess my fingers never roam up that high on the keyboard until I'm ready to send my laptop to sleep.

For some weird reason i always hit the F8 button when i am trying to aim for the F7 button. I did this for quite some time so i just would like to disable it , anyway i don't use mouse properties . Thanks for the idea of stopping the program in windows but i still want some of the keys to work.

Ah, that makes sense. The reason you hit F8 instead of F7 is probably due to the function keys on the Thinkpad being shifted to the left (Esc is above F1, not to the left). It takes time getting used to. This also explains why you want some the keys to work. I assume you want to use Fn+F7 for display management. In which case I think it's better than Fn+F8 brings the mouse menu. This way you know that you hit the wrong key and correct it immediately (just press Fn+F7). If it did nothing, it would have taken you more time to understand whether you hit the wrong key or just didn't hit it strong enough, or whether you mixed Fn with Ctrl or Shift, or some such. What do you think?

That does make sense. I'm not sure which model Thinkpad you run, but I just tried the Fn+F8 on my T22 ... and nothing. Is there perhaps a utility that assigns the hotkeys that are not labeled with blue diagrams, as my F8 shows nothing. If there is perhaps he can just re-assign the mouse properties to say F10, safely away from the one he always uses.

My F8 isn't labeled with anything too, and yet Fn+F8 works. Same about F9 and F2. It has to do with drivers. Your T22 doesn't have a touchpad, so the Ultranav driver is not installed, and it's no wonder that Fn+F8 does nothing.

Try remapping F7 to F8, that way you can continue to hit the 'wrong' key.
