T42 2373-3VU Wireless not working

#1 Post by pete0r » Sat Mar 10, 2007 9:33 am

I'm running windows vista business, and I have the Intel wifi card.

I upgraded from XP Pro and for the first few weeks, wireless worked a lot better then it had before.

About 2 weeks ago, it started to mess up. I can view all of the wireless networks, but when I try to connect to them it takes like 2 seconds and then says there's a problem and offers to diagnose the problem. Diagnose/repair does nothing..

The intel cards have always been flakey.. in XP, I would just delete it from device manager, reboot, and reinstall the card. It would then work fine.

In vista, if you delete the card it automatically reinstalls it.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from IBM, and installed them. I rebooted. It still does the same thing.

Does anyone think maybe this could be a hardware problem? Should I contact IBM and see if they will replace my wireless card? I really have no idea what else could be causing the problem.

Thanks,

Pete

You are correct I have not like the 3945abg from the start with XP but it does seem to be working better in Vista. I have not updated the driver yet (just using the Vista drivers) for fear of it starting to act up again.

Is it completely dead now or just flaky. You could try reseating the card. Uninstall everything and reinstall.

Hope this does not happen to me :?

That's a good point, I haven't thought about doing that.

As to the flakey or broken.. I'm going towards broken. Although it does detect several wireless networks, and it finds different networks in different locations.. it just won't connect..

I could take the card out, boot without it. Shutdown, put the card back in, boot up, install drivers.. and see if that works.

thanks for the suggestion!

I'm curious, do you use a lot of access points or just work and home and what brand of access points?

My home AP is a belkin and works so much better with Vista Business now and my ability to connect to various open networks on the road has improved. I struggled with the card initially (to a point where I left my t60 at home and would use either my t30 or R52) when I got the machine new, I don't know if you have read through the t60 forum post's ref to the 3945ABG card.

I hop between 3 AP's.. my school apartment and my home are both running modded linksys wrt54g's. The 3rd one is at school, and I don't know what they're running.

Initially, wireless was working much better with Vista. It would auto connect faster, and it wouldn't drop me. But after a few weeks it was back to the same ol, same ol that I had been dealing with while using XP.
