T60 Wireless Vista Issues

#1 Post by mss1337 » Tue Mar 13, 2007 12:01 am

I recently installed vista home premium on my t60 with the Intel 3945abg card. The wireless performance in vista was very erratic. Some times it worked, other times it didn't (esp coming out of sleep or restart). I could get it to work eventually after plugging it back in to the router, but it was a hassel so I rolled back to XP for the time being. I called IBM and they said it was a driver issue which they should update in a few weeks. I am up to date on all the latest vista drivers. Has anyone else had the same experience? Besides driver issues vista is great.

There seem to be a lot of issues with wireless and Vista especially if you are using Access Connections. I switched to the Lenovo wireless mini pci card (Atheros chipset) with some improvement. I have experienced failures to connect to my router and spurious disconnects. These issues did not exist with XP. Lenovo needs to fix AC 4.31 and Intel needs to fix their drivers for Vista.

I have Access Connections 4.31 running under Vista Ultimate using an Intel BG2200 card on a T41 and it works fine with a variety of open and secure Wifi connections.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks for the replies. My windows XP wireless works flawlessly. How long do you think it will take for Lenovo to get their act together and release new drivers for 3945abg card for vista? I really enjoy using vista. Its super fast and looks great. How was it that you switched to the Atheros chipset? Did you have to install new hardware or did use just use a different driver with the intel card?

It's not about Lenovo, it's more about how long it will take Intel to get their act together and release something that works well with Vista.

Both Intel and Lenovo need to get moving on Vista. AC 4.31 definitely has issues and so does power management. The pm issues I can live with but the AC problems are very annoying.

Any news here?
I'm running Vista Business on a Z61p with the Intel 3945abg wifi card. I have Access Connections 4.31b.

First problem is that my signal strength never shows more than 60% even though I'm right next to the wireless access point. Running XPProSp2 on the same computer always shows 100%

Second, I get disconnects.

Third, switching locations doesn't work with Access Connections 4.31b. I have to go into the adapter ip settings in control panel to change the settings.

I found an updated driver for the Intel 3945abg card on the Intel site. The version number is 11.1.0.0

This fixed my signal strength issue. I'll have to see if it fixes my other issues.

Try this: http://blog.st-agnes.org/cs/blogs/the_c ... nt/34.ashx

I called tech support and they told me the same thing. My T60p has the Antheros a/b/g/n card though. If you need instructions for it, let me know.

I have issues with Vista and wifi in my T41P. I upgraded the card to the intel 2200BG and it works great most of the time. For instance I am at school right now. In vista I can connect to the AP, but downloads are ridiculously slow. Upon rebooting into XP, everything is nice and fast.

I really want to like Vista, I really do....
