Save to remove the IBM Java Runtime?

I have a relatively new R51 with XP Pro. I've installed Sun's Java SDK & JRE. Is it safe to remove the IBM JRE that was pre-installed, or is it tweaked in some way that some of the utility apps depend on?

It doesn't bother to remove the IBM Java so far as I know. I remove from every machine I deal with to install Sun's Standard JAVA because I don't need the developer kit. Nothing has gone wrong for having removed it.
