Lenovo Windows Vista Ultimate Edition Recovery DVD
Lenovo Windows Vista Ultimate Edition Recovery DVD
Have anyone had a Lenovo Windows Vista Ultimate Edition Recovery DVD, Lenovo Windows Vista Business Edition Recovery DVD or Lenovo Windows Vista Home Premium Edition Recovery DVD? Would you please send me an ISO copy?
My thinkpad model is T60p-CTO with WindowsXP preinstalled. I have bought a valid Vista product key. However, since my thinkpad wasn't preinstalled with WindowsXP, Lenovo doesn't seem like to send me a Vista Recovery DVD. It would be much appreciated if someone wants to send me an ISO file on my ftp server. Then, I would like to help anyone in my situation.
Thanks in advance!

Well, he is asking for recovery DVDs of either Vista Ultimate, or Vista Business, or Vista Home Premium. Three different editions requiring three different product keys.... that is product keys from Lenovo - not the product keys he might have bought via the retail or system builder edition from Microsoft.Chatbox wrote:I guess he has the Microsoft Vista Installation DVD, but would still like the Lenovo packaged Recovery DVD so that he doesn't have to fiddle with the drivers and settings...etc.
Now, of course it doesn't take a genius to find out that there are various hacks floating around the Net, which include the OEM product keys of various OEM SLP vendors, including Lenovo, for various OEM/recovery DVD Vista editions...
That is correct. I do have a Microsoft Vista Installation DVD, but I want to restore my system form Lenovo's recovery DVD.Chatbox wrote:I guess he has the Microsoft Vista Installation DVD, but would still like the Lenovo packaged Recovery DVD so that he doesn't have to fiddle with the drivers and settings...etc.AlexanderT wrote: And how would you do that without obtaining the install media?

Like I said, it won't help that you have the Vista installation DVD since its product key is not compatible with the recovery DVDs.Shallot.P wrote:That is correct. Unless something has changed with Vista, the Product Key is already included in the Product Recovery Disc set. No need to enter a Product Key and no need to Activate either. Nevertheless, that does not mean that a Vista Product Recovery Disc set will do the OP any good.

Ahh yes, GomJabbar, you're right. The recovery DVDs have a OEM SLP product key embedded.
Ok, so you don't need a product key and anyone with a Lenovo notebook and a bios that's compatible to Vista can install Vista from the Lenovo recovery DVDs.
Here is an interesting related post from Lenovo:

Here is an interesting related post from Lenovo:
Why can I only make one set of recovery CDs for my ThinkPad? - The reason for this is actually a limitation as set forth by our terms and conditions with Microsoft. This is one way for them to minimize piracy. For example, if you had a set of Vista Recovery CDs and your friend had XP, some unscrupulous people might make extra copies for their friends to give them “free upgrades.”
Not exactly. A Lenovo notebook can be Vista Compatible, yet not have the necessary information stored in the BIOS to use the Lenovo supplied Vista Product Recovery Discs.AlexanderT wrote:Ok, so you don't need a product key and anyone with a Lenovo notebook and a bios that's compatible to Vista can install Vista from the Lenovo recovery DVDs.
Quotes below from link I posted previously.
syedj wrote:I recently ordered Recovery CD set for my T60 to restore the factory state of the hard drive. Instead of the usual set of seven CDs for WinXP Pro what I received was three DVDs for Vista Business. With not a whole lot to lose I gave the Vista Recovery CDs a shot thinking since WinXP Pro CD set doesn't require product key maybe the Vista won't either. It did install just fine and came up with all the Lenovo applications pre-installed as expected- however, when I tried validating Windows Vista it failed giving an error that the product key is invalid.
kf_man wrote:The key is embedded in the disk and is a generic Lenovo key. The missing piece of the puzzle is the SLIC data that needs to be in the BIOS ACPI tables that Vista uses to activate your machine. The original T60 machines do not come loaded with this table (You can see your ACPI tables using the latest beta of Everest Ultimate 2007), but the newer machines do. The tables do not appear to be affected or modified by BIOS updates, so that's not the solution either. Basically, any solution would be far too hazardous to your machine to be worth it.

It occurred to me that's maybe what you meant. I just wasn't sure.
The big question that I don't yet know the answer to with certaintly is if Lenovo is putting the Vista updated BIOS code in ThinkPads that are shipped with XP. In other words, if a person orders a T60 with XP today, then later on acquires a set of Lenovo Vista Product Recovery Discs, will they work? Of course if a person bought a T60 with Vista today, I would expect the Lenovo Vista Product Recovery Discs to work on that T60. But do all the new T60's shipping from Lenovo today have the required uddated BIOS code to allow the use of Lenovo Vista Product Recovery Discs?

I bought my T60p before the Christmas day, so there wasn't the SLIC data information in my BIOS. Thinkpaders without SLIC in their BIOS will be prompted a product key.GomJabbar wrote:Unless something has changed with Vista, the Product Key is already included in the Product Recovery Disc set. Sorry, I don't know whether this is illegal or not. But I really want a legal vista system. I'm not willing to expose my thinkpad under some risks, otherwise I would have tried a crack version of vista.ryengineer wrote:That's illegal.Shallot.P wrote:It would be much appreciated if someone wants to send me an ISO file on my ftp server. The Lenovo Vista Recovery Disc embedded the vista product key in the disk. However, not all the thinkpads are able to use this recovery disc even if the models of their laptops are the same. For example, the SLIC datas in the BIOS of T60p-2613cto are different between a WindowsXP preinstalled machine and a Vista preinstalled machine. Therefore, I think Lenovo Vista Recovery Disc is specified for valid vista machines only.
Actually, I have downloaded a Lenovo Vista Recovery DVD of Chinese version, but it doesn't work in my t60p because the language version of the Vista I bought is English.

Hacking BIOS? Maybe you misunderstand my meaning. I do *not* want to hack anything or make any crack with Vista.ronan_zj wrote:product key info is embedded in ur BIOS. I too am in the same situation...
I bought a T60p before Christmas, that came with XP Pro.
I have installed Windows Vista without any keys as a temporary OS until Moduslink sends me my Vista Business edition DVD.
I installed Vista Business using the Beta drivers in January, which were horrible. When Lenovo came out with the official drivers, I reformatted and installed Vista Business with the official drivers. Needless to say, I destroyed the "hidden recovery" partition.
The 2nd install was faster, but I am not quite satisfied with the overall "feel" of the OS. The boot seems slower than it should. The post login process seems to hang a few seconds longer than it should.
I would like to have an "Official Lenovo" install of Vista.
I will have the Vista DVD in a few days, but would prefer to to setup my laptop using the Recovery DVD so that I am sure of a "proper" install.
I am not a hacker.
I am not looking for a free ride.
I paid alot of money for this T60p, and I want it to perform to it's full potential.
There has got to be a way.

This might be incorrect, but does Lenovo even offer Vista Ultimate for Thinkpads. I was looking their website the other day and I didn't see it as an option to upgrade. I believe I only saw Vista Home Premium and Business, but no Ultimate.

To the best of my knowledge it's only offered with their desktop systems, not Thinkpads.cpascu01 wrote:This might be incorrect, but does Lenovo even offer Vista Ultimate for Thinkpads.

Thanks James. I bought the retail English version of Vista Ultimate. Since I haven't opened the packaging, maybe retailer would like to change it to the business version.JHEM wrote:To the best of my knowledge it's only offered with their desktop systems, not Thinkpads.cpascu01 wrote:This might be incorrect, but does Lenovo even offer Vista Ultimate for Thinkpads.
