Running 64-bit Vista?

#1 Post by primedude » Mon Mar 19, 2007 6:46 pm

Hi all, I searched for an answer to this, but didn't find anything address this issue.

I have two Vista discs: a Vista Business disc (from the Power Together program, which explicitly states "this disc contains 32-bit software only") and a Windows upgrade disc that came with my new T60 (that also states "32-bit only"). I also have two Vista Business licenses, one from each source. I assume I also have Vista installed on my R&R partition, but I would imagine this is the 32-bit version -- though if both are on there, please correct me.

Is there any way I can legally run 64-bit Vista using either of the licenses I hold? And if so, where can I obtain the 64-bit version?

I'm sure this has been addressed, but I would appreciate the help. Thanks so much.

OK, it looks like I can get a 64-bit disc if I buy an Anytime Upgrade. I guess that answers my question for the most part. Everything I've read indicates that my product key will work with 64-bit Vista, so I should be set there.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/produc ... 64bit.mspx

Microsoft is giving out 64bit DVDs, to people if they have a legit 32bit version.

I am waiting for my 32bit copy from Moduslink, so that I can use the key to order the 64bit from their website
Z61p - 9452 JRU, XP pro 32-bit, 15.4 WUXGA, Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, 160GB-54k HDD, 2GB-RAM, 256MB-VRAM, Intel ABG Pro, Bluetooth, DVD Multi Burn.

Oh, perfect, thanks. I just ordered a 64-bit Vista DVD for ten bucks. Not bad. I was worried that it wouldn't accept my product key since my version of Vista wasn't a "retail, packaged" product, but it went through without any trouble.

Thanks again for the tip!
