Vista on Z61t Issues

#1 Post by mpvincent » Tue Mar 20, 2007 2:36 pm

Hi all,

I just wanted to compile a list of some of the issues I am finding with upgrading (clean install) to vista business on my Z61t. Would be interested to know if others are finding the same or have found solutions:

1. Screen seems to blank every so often for so apparent reason
2. Changing from AC to battery and back again not very reliable - particularly for screen brightness settings
3. The integrated camera light does not come on when the camera is in use. Further, the camera does not appear in the scanners and cameras control panel - also there doesnt appear to be software to use the camera as there was in XP?
4. WiFi indicator seems to so a much lower signal than in XP - in XP it was consistently 100%, but in Vista only gets to 60%
5. This could be my problem rather than the machine, but when I tried to make a voice call using the modem, the microphone wouldnt work - the only way I seem to be able to get the microphone to work is through the speech recognition software
6. When trying to use windows backup to a NAS drive, it keeps asking for a username and password to connect even though one is not setup.

Has anyone come up with any other issues, can confirm the above, or have any solutions? Do Lenovo monitor these groups for issues?

Also, I upgraded from 1gb to 2gb ram yesterday and boy what a difference. Would recommend to anyone that can afford it!

Cheers

Mike.

On 6, you might find this helps:

Click "Start -> Run." Then, type in the Run field: "secpol.msc." That will bring you to Vista's security policy system. Once there, use "Go to: Local Policies > Security Options" and then find "Network Security: LAN Manager" authentication level. Once there, change the Setting from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM -- use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated."

I am running Home Premium (own version) on my T60 with system update drivers/software.

I have the same issues 2,4.

4 doesnt really bother me but 2 really hacks me off, i like to have LCD on 4 when on battery and 7 when on a/c

Anyone know a fix?

Cheers

For the LCD brightness to stay relatively the same on Battery as on AC, go to the BIOS settings and change the LCD Brightness setting to High. When it is set to Normal, it will dim when on Battery operation.

Not really.

In terms of my list:

1. Screen hasnt been blanking so much. Dont think I didnt anything to fix this.
2. Things started to get a little worse for me. When running on power, the screen would suddenly dim all the way, and the sound would mute for no aparent reason. It was all very strange! I have since uninstalled the sound drivers (and have not put them back on yet), uninstalled the power management software, uninstalled the power management driver (and then reinstalled again), and fingers crossed things seem to be a bit more reliable. Dont know what was causing the problems, but I can only suggest uninstalling some of the software and drivers, putting back the drivers and using the vista native software rather than the thinkpad stuff.
3. Havent resolved the camera light, and the camera still not listed in the control panel under scanners and cameras (should it be?). In the ZP build there was an application where you could take photos with the intergated camera, but cant find anything equivalent in Vista. How can I see the camera in action under vista?
4. WiFi still an issue for me. When copying things around my home network I only get 30% at best in the taskmanger for that adaptor. Dont know if I should be getting more than this. Even so, the WiFi indicator still says im only getting 3 bars when under XP I used to be 5.
5. Not resolved
6. It looks at though is probably a bug with the vista backup software. I can use retrospective to backup to the nas drive just fine.
