Vista, recovery, clean install question

#1 Post by CP-Geek » Sat Mar 24, 2007 5:05 am

Howdy

I have this problem. Just ot my new T60 (8847-HDG, T7200 2Gb etc etc) and it was so full of bloatware & crap it was unbelievable. (Fully installed SQL 2005 Express database server and so on....)

So, what I need & want is a clean install, with only the features i need. Is this at all possible with recovery disc's? (Yes, i burned them.) Or does it recover to the same state this thing came in? With all that crap?

I'm actually thinking of taking a Vista DVD and installing it with my key from the T60. Not really sure if this is an EULA-breaking thing, since EULA doesn't state anything about media.

Advices? Opinions?

Did a 'clean' install of Vista.
The only drivers i loaded were the,
systeminterfacedrive
IBMPM - the power management driver.

That's it.

What a difference.

The recovery disks put the system back to the state it was when you first bought the machine. So you'll probably have to take the time to remove what you don't want, :( If you have a retail version of vista just install that you'll have to get another license.

I reinstalled mine last week from another bought business-disc i have at home, using the product key under T60 and then did the phone activation. Talked to MS-woman on the other end, told honestly what I did and from what disc, and she gave me the activation numbers. We came to conclusion that MS's terms are not violated and it was okay.

Wow, that is excellent good for you :D , it's much better to clean install I'm sure, that's what I have done, good info for other forum members as well.

Just for my own clarification, you are able to use this CD on two systems since one is using the T60 product key?

Yes, and the MS-woman didn't have any complaint's either. To my understanding the Vista-DVD is the same for all retail's and all OEM's, it's the product key used that makes the difference. (Correct me if Iäm wrong.)

I know it worked for me, and it is now approved by MS. 8)
