LenovoRegistration.exe

C:\SWTools\LenovoWelcome\Lenovoregistration.exe is being run every time I log in. A command window is flashed for a couple of seconds and nothing else happens. Kind of annoying... Any ideas or suggestions?

I get the same command prompt screen when I boot that comes up with the same path to the file. It flashes an error message for a second as it goes away, I screenshotted it to read it and it says "File C:\SWSHARE\leadertech.ini could not be found". Google didn't have anything for me on this file though.

Any thoughts?

Can the 'Lenovo Registration.exe' be removed and not cause problems?

I am curious about that too, it is annoying everytime that you boot to see that screen standing there for a while.

i stopped it a while back and nothing happened, see sig for specs

I also had this thing (C:\SWTools\LenovoWelcome\Lenovoregistration.exe) running each time I booted my new T60 (2007-QPG, UT0QPDK, coming with Vista Business preloaded), and I couldn't see it doing anything. So, I also disabled it from automatic execution at boot - using Autoruns for Windows - a very good and free tool! (runs under XP and Vista).

Another also very good tool from Sysinternals is Process Explorer for Windows.

Windows has an autorun managment utility built in.
Win+R > msconfig

Zaymek, It did work, thanks a million. I used the same utility to disable an annoying web cam software that I had installed.

It looks like you can remove "Lenovo Registration" from the control panel remove program feature. I suspect this is the program that's running the command prompt at boot but I'm not sure. I'd feel a lot better about removing the program if I understood what supposed to be doing. Does anybody know for sure what it's for? Thanks.

I did remove first, and it continued to show up regardless, then when I used the solution above it did clear it.

here's what I did:

1. download and install MSconfig cleanup here. It's a freeware prog - no spam.
2. Run msconfig: Win+R, then type in msconfig.
3. go to the startup tab and deselect the lenovo registration.
4. Exit, don't restart when prompted.
5. Run MSConfig Cleanup as administrator. Select entries and clean.
6. Open MSConfig again. Under the General tab, select Diagnostic startup, then back to Normal Startup. The point is to get the Apply button to activate, and to apply the Normal setting.
7. This time, restart.

By this process, you avoid two things:

1. Getting the "modified Msconfig" message after reboot.
2. Having Lenovo Registration return even after deselecting it.

I'm very pleased with our config. There are a few quirks here and there, like the fan noise + GPU heat, but otherwise it's a solid performer and hasn't let me down yet.

One thing is, I've switched over to XP Pro as Vista was just not for me, even though I tried working with it for a few months. It was a lot of small things that added up, rather than any large, glaring issues.

Overall, it's my favorite computer that I've ever owned or used.

You just have to to go to "Start" Click on "Run..."

Then type "msconfig".

Choose the "Startup" Tab, and deselect the line with the LenovoRegisteration thing.

It worked for me. Now there's no black screen.
