Waking up after sleep fails on external display

#1 Post by avfager » Mon Mar 26, 2007 1:38 pm

I have a Z61m with the advanced docking, external display (VGA TFT), keyboard and mouse.

I just installed Vista Business. Everything works - but:

When I let my Thinkpad sleep in closed condition, and then wakes it up - my display (external) fails to wake up with it.

If I open the display and then wakes up the laptop, the external display also "awakens".

This is irritating, since I use my laptop as a desktop-replacement, and would like to keep it closed and out of the way. However, I like the sleep function too, since it gives me a fast access to pc functions when I need it.

Has anyone heard about this problem - and if so, perhaps also heard a solution to it ?

Did your external display wake up as you believe it should with XP?

I ask because I just bought an external LCD TV/Monitor that I connected to my T42 (Windows XP) via the VGA port. If I have my T42 set to turn the display off after some minutes, shortly after the monitor also turns itself off. When I move the TrackPoint, the T42's display wakes up but the external LCD TV/Monitor does not wake back up. I have to physically turn on the external monitor again. I believe this to be a shortcoming of the external monitor, not the T42.

That said, I have a desktop PC connected to a Viewsonic CRT monitor. When the desktop PC goes into standby, the monitor also goes into standby. When the desktop PC wakes up, the monitor also wakes up.

Yes - with XP there was never any problems. Strangely enough it seems that it seems that it sometimes does work in Vista - but mostly not....

Any ideas ?

I've had the same problem with my display and I've been looking for a solution for months now. Still nothing though =(
