Total Restore after PC-Doctor fatal error. Driverversions?

#1 Post by PaulJo » Sun Apr 01, 2007 1:58 am

I hereby realize I have to take at least one working day do totally restore my R40 after the error caused by the known "PC-Doctor 5.0" auto update!

My machine is TP R40. TYPE: 2722-GDG. Serial: KBK 1837 (308).
Since my machine is some years now, I suspect that many of the driverversions released through the "Software Installer" are more intented for newer machines an not needed on my model.

This post is now Updated and will be poste under Software also. I need all knowledge for deleting most unnecessary stored information on my HDafter this reinstallation.

1: IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO ASK FOR A LIST FROM IBM SUPPORT OF THE DRIVERVERSIONS NEEDED FOR MY SPECIFIC MODELL? (I find it hard to beleive that all the upgrades of drivers experienced the last 3,5 years are really necessary for my machine. Have never had bugs as far as I know. (Think maybee many of the driverupdates contain functionality not needed for my model, but more for newer models) I would like to avoid any unnecessary driver versions. It should not take support too long to find this info and post a reply with all the direct links to the spesific drivers?

2: If I have to use the software downloader; What downloads are made from the Software Installer? Where are they stored, and what can be removed?

3: What WinXP downloads are being done during an update of the software? Where are they stored and what can I remove?

4: Are there any other knowledge in this forum about unnecessary files on the machine, that can be removed?

5: I have never been able to take advantage of the latest Rapid Restore program from IBM. Support site claims my machine is too old? Can anyone confirm?

6: If someone has links to other usefull posts in this forum, thank you for posting link in this thread. Any links to how to best keep godd restorepoints without RR?

(I will also be searching the forum, but my language is Norwegian and my vocabulary in english is not always bringing me what I need)

I hope this is something Lenovo can do (1 and 2). We do have two R40's in this house, and we will replase them one day.
As for 3,4,5 and 6. Thanks to all who find time answering!
