Elevating permissions for running specific programs

#1 Post by stephenaron » Sat Apr 07, 2007 3:45 pm

Is there a way in Vista to set certain programs to be allowed to run WITHOUT being prompted for permission everytime? I run one that i have set to run as an administrator, but that obvously isnt enough. I dont want to turn of UAC all together.

I dont have a sure shot answer but this is what I have observed. If you have a program which is designed for Win XP and installed in Vista, UAC will always prompt you for permission. This seems to be true even if you set XP compatibility and 'Run as administrator'.
However if there is a application written for Vista, giving permission once or setting 'Run as administrator' stops any further annoyance.
Maybe someone else has tried / observed something similar as above. Please verify or correct me.

I don' think you can do this for one program. You can make some global changes without fully disabling UAC:

See Change the elevation prompt behavior and Disable Admin Approval Mode.
